As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith’s mission by:
Coordinate the data acquisition of transportation demographic, economic, land use and/or environmental data. Perform and document complex traffic analysis and forecast on current transportation projects including for urban streets, transit systems and highway projects. Complete roadway traffic and transit analyses and modeling using Vissim, Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS (Highway Capacity Software) and outputs from other travel demand modeling packages such as Cube and TransCAD. Use results from traffic and transit modeling to recommend roadway and intersection configurations, signal timing and service needs including written technical analyses. Conduct roadway safety analysis using Highway Safety Manual. Prepare new business proposals. View and assist with developing CAD drawings. Assist with developing, calibrating, or validating four-step travel demand models. Assist with planning studies, traffic analyses, and tolling studies with nationwide clients. Assist with project grant writing and analyses support for FTA and FHWA grants. Compile and analyze safety crash data. Provide concepts and recommendations to address and decrease crash rates. Provide technical guidance and training to more junior staff, and developing them for future growth within the discipline and firm. Review transportation plans for compliance/consistency with applicable local, state, and federal laws. Escalate any legal compliance issues as necessary. Develop 3D renderings to show transportation improvement alternatives. Formally mentor by providing technical guidance and training to more junior staff. Mentor more junior staff and develop them for future growth within the discipline and firm. Be a task manager or project technical lead depending on the project; understand and apply CDM Smith's project management techniques and quality management procedures to projects. Actively participate in transportation planning research via attending conferences and seminars and/or publishing technical papers. Develop scripts to analyze large datasets through different platforms and tools such as R, Python, and ArcGIS Online. May work from home up to 3 days per week. • Must possess at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in Civil Engineering; Urban, Community or Regional Planning; or a related field and at least 6 years of experience as a Transportation Planner or in a related role. In the alternative, a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Civil Engineering; Urban, Community or Regional Planning; or a related field and at least 7 years of progressive experience as a Transportation Planner or in a related role would be acceptable. • Must also possess the following: o At least 5 years of experience with traffic engineering o At least 5 years of modeling experience utilizing VISSIM and Synchro traffic simulation software o At least 5 years of experience in traffic safety analysis and generating crash maps utilizing ArcGIS o At least 3 years of experience in statistical modeling utilizing tools like SPSS, R and/or Python
