Here at Jacobs, we apply our expertise and knowledge as we?look into?the future with great optimism and focus. We don’t settle until we give our best and know that we’re making a difference. If you want to join a company invested in you, your success and the global community - join us as an Infrastructure Funding & Grant Writer to help communities thrive.
As a vital member of our team, you’ll support the efforts of our clients (cities, counties, state departments of transportation, transit agencies, and utilities) to secure federal and state funding for their critical projects. You will collaborate with diverse teams at Jacobs such as our federal grants experts, government relations team, transportation planners, economists, resiliency engineers, and many others to understand our clients’ infrastructure projects and funding needs, and ultimately to develop competitive federal and state grant applications.
You will use your research and writing skills to develop federal and state grant applications that thoroughly address grant program requirements, while creatively highlighting the strengths of every project. You will work together with the Jacobs teams described previously, but also spend a significant portion of your time working independently, researching topics such as community demographics and economic trends in areas adjacent to proposed projects, related planning efforts, etc., to support development of grant application narratives. You will also interface directly with clients and may be responsible for managing grant application project schedules and budgets.
Working together, we’ll help you grow and pursue what fulfills you so that we can make impacts on the future – big and small, global and local.
Specific responsibilities that the grant application writer is envisioned to have include the following:
•Participate in project kickoff and coordination calls with clients to discuss candidate grant projects and request relevant information on the infrastructure project seeking funding
•Draft sections of project grant applications, ensuring that all funding agency requirements are addressed to the best extent possible
•Conduct desktop research as needed to “make the case” for the project, including on topics such as regional economic trends, demographics served by the project, and past impacts of infrastructure failures
•Track compliance of draft applications with requirements identified in instructions and guidance documents provided by grant agencies
Candidate for this role will possess the following skills and experience:
•Strong writing skills, including the ability to draft report-length project narratives in a professional voice and style, free of spelling or grammatical errors
•Ability to distill key themes and compelling elements of a large infrastructure project and articulate them concisely for an unfamiliar reader
•Basic document layout and production skills in Word, including use of references, styles, and image formatting
•Organizational skills to help track compliance with grant program requirements in Word document or Excel spreadsheets
•Experience with federal or state infrastructure grant programs preferred
•Knowledge of transportation, water, and/or municipal sector infrastructure challenges and/or capital planning processes preferred
•Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 2 years of professional experience required
Your most impactful mission in this role is to embrace living inclusion every day and enabling diversity and equality globally. For us, this means creating a culture of belonging where we all thrive by embracing all perspectives. An inclusive culture with many perspectives through diverse backgrounds allows us to leverage knowledge, leadership, and connection to bring forth opportunity, creativity and growth.
