Job Summary
Develops innovative plans and services to support University goals of attracting and retaining an academically talented and diverse student population in STEM, specifically the STEM majors represented in the College of Arts and Sciences including Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology. Travels to high schools and community events to recruit students and develop key partnerships. Provides coordination and support for Undergraduate Admissions functions. Serves on university committees and task forces. Interacts professionally with all internal and external customers using strong interpersonal skills. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Three to five years of experience in educational settings (such as high school, community, or college and university education) in any area of recruitment, retention, program planning, or student support.
Ability to establish rapport quickly and easily with diverse groups.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including group presentation skills.
Proficiency in use of word, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
Valid driver’s license and ability to establish driver eligibility under the University’s Driving and Motor Vehicle Policy.
Ability to travel off-campus.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree.
Experience in the sciences or in-depth knowledge of a science profession, its requirements, and careers within sciences.
Experience interacting with high school and middle school students, high school faculty and administrators.
Knowledge of STEM-related organizations and science professional organizations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Effective written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and decision-making abilities.
Strong organizational and excellent interpersonal skills and have a “Customer Focus” attitude and delivery.
Ability to build and maintain professional relationships and work as an individual contributor and an effective team player, in addition to being highly organized, self-directed, and forward-thinking.
Possess the ability to effectively plan and coordinate, establish and maintain effective working relationships and prioritize workloads based on available resources.
Supports a diverse community through workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, problem solving, hiring, retention, facilitation, and decision-making skills and competencies.
