Job Abstract

Yale University’s Sexual Harassment and Assault Response & Education (SHARE) Center is available to all members of the Yale community (undergraduate/graduate/professional students), as well as staff, faculty and their dependents/spouses who are dealing with sexual misconduct of any kind, including sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, intimate partner violence, and more. We assist individuals who are dealing with both current/recent and past experiences, and offer support to those who experience something indirectly such as supporting friends, loved ones or witnessing something of concern.

SHARE provides crisis support, advocacy, referrals for on-going care, and other resources to the entire Yale community. We also offer on-going therapy, support services and support groups for students processing issues related to sexual misconduct.

Resources are provided for individuals who are exploring concerns related to their own behaviors and/or are mandated for training after being found responsible for a sexual misconduct policy violation. These services are provided through the Conduct Awareness Training Program, which provides support and educational information to help individuals self-reflect on their sexual behaviors and broader relationship dynamics to promote empathy, accountability, and greater recognition of the harm they may have caused.

SHARE will broaden its scope to include prevention and education initiatives promoting safe and respectful interactions among Yale community members. This will include decision-making regarding sexual behavior, dating, and relationships.

Reporting to the Director and Assistant Director, the SHARE Clinician portion of this position will provide direct services to members of the University community impacted by sexual misconduct. These services include short-term trauma-focused therapy, supportive counseling related to sexual misconduct, as well as advocacy, such as accompaniment to meetings with both Yale and community-based resources such as medical services and legal resources/proceedings. SHARE Clinicians provide culturally competent, trauma-informed assistance and treatment to individuals of varied racial/ethnic identities, nationalities, socioeconomic backgrounds, abilities and sexual/gender identities. They are available for scheduled and same-day/drop-in appointments Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm with the possibility for 1 to 2 remote work days per week. They also participate in a rotating schedule for coverage of SHARE’s 24/7 on-call service.

The Prevention and Education Specialist portion of this position will work closely and collaboratively with SHARE leadership, the SHARE Respondent Support and Prevention Specialist, and other Yale departments on developing and disseminating new initiatives promoting safe and respectful interactions among Yale community members. It will also cover decision-making regarding sexual behavior, dating, and relationships. Maintains close communication and working relationships with partner offices at Yale to collaboratively develop a comprehensive, coordinated approach to prevention education programming on campus, including serving on committees and participating in working groups.

Programming will focus primarily on graduate/professional students and staff/faculty populations and will collaborate and coordinate with the Office of Gender and Campus Culture (OGCC) which already provides this programming to the undergraduate population. Prior to the development of programming, this individual will work with SHARE leadership and the other partner offices at Yale to conduct research and a needs assessment around themes, topics, and programming approaches that are a best fit for this campus population. There may also be an opportunity for the individual in this position to participate in and contribute to the growing restorative and transformative justice initiatives happening on campus. Strong oral and written communication skills.
1. Act as first point of contact for Yale community members who have experienced sexual misconduct (sexual assault, sexual harassment, intimate partner violence, and/or stalking). 2. Provide individual therapy and supportive counseling to Yale students to process their experiences related to sexual misconduct. 3. Facilitate support groups. 4. Inform community members of on-campus and off-campus resources –including medical, legal, Title IX, University-Wide Community on Sexual Misconduct, Yale Police Department, and others –and support in considering possible courses of action. 5. As requested, coordinate connection to resources and provide accompaniments, including evidence collection and medical consultations at Yale New Haven Hospital or Yale Health following an acute sexual misconduct experience. 6. Interact with internal campus contacts such as medical/clinical staff and University administrators to discuss treatment and action plans. 7. Participate in the development and implementation of prevention, education, and outreach programming within the Yale community, with special attention to historically marginalized and traditionally underserved populations. 8. May perform other duties as assigned. Advanced degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling, and two years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
