ENSCO’s Applied Technology and Engineering (ATE) Division designs, develops, manufactures, and supports advanced technology inspection systems for national and international railway markets.
We are currently seeking a Senior Technician for our ATIP maintenance group which supports a variety of railroad transportation activities to maintain and ensure safe rail systems for the Federal Railroad Administration and railroad companies.
The incumbent will perform scheduled maintenance and unscheduled repair of diesel engines, electrical generators, brake systems, drive systems, inspection system instrumentation, electrical subsystems, and other railcar appliances. Occasional assignments conducting railroad track inspection operations may be performed.
Job Responsibilities Include:- Conduct inspections, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repairs of rail vehicles and sub-systems (Electrical, mechanical, and optical system)
- Complete installations and upgrades, inspections, repairs, and calibrations of measurement systems
- Coordination with design engineering for failure analysis, root cause analysis, and product improvement
- Analysis and repair of mechanical, electrical, sub-systems, and components
- Communication with workgroup, report on action taken during work evolutions, complete technical reports
- Use and update drawings and diagrams used in repairs and builds of systems.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical, welding/fabrication fields
Ability to read schematics, and wiring diagrams for various systems.
Effectively troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic systems
Competency in the use of electronic test equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, and network analyzers.
Utilize PowerPoint, Word, and Excel to prepare technical reports.
Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
Possess and maintain valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s license.
Pass and maintain various safety training certificates.
Travel of no less than 25% per month
Physical Requirements
Willing and able to work long hours (approx. 12-hour shifts, although no overtime assumed or guaranteed)
Lift and carry 50 lbs. for 150+ feet
Climb a ladder and work at 15+ feet
Ability to distinguish between colored lights for survey operations (i.e., no colorblindness)
Ability to work in tight spots, under and about survey vehicles
Willing to work in inclement weather
Project and maintain a professional attitude and appearance
Must have excellent hearing to act as a safety watchman in a railroad environment
The selected candidate will be required to submit to additional screening and background investigations in connection with this position. Wearing safety equipment (hardhat, steel-toe boots, protective vest, and protective eyeglasses) when working on railroad properties is also a requirement. ENSCO will provide all necessary safety equipment.
- College or Technical School attendance and/or completion certificate or degree
- Welding and metal fabrication skills (plasma, MIG, TIG, ARC) with multiple material types
- Diesel engine maintenance and repair experience
- Hydraulics and Pneumatics experience
- Heavy equipment maintenance/repairs
- Ability to solder and build cable assemblies
- Railroad environment experience
- Familiarity with CFR Title 49 Parts 229 and 238
- Knowledge of and experience with air brake systems
- Experience with optical and inertial sensors
- Knowledge of and experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
- Experience setting up and debugging local area networks
- Proficiency with multiple software operating systems and applications (i.e., QNX, Linux)
- Quality Program exposure/experience (ISO 9001, 17025)
- Safety Program experience (Railroad, OSHA, specialized)
- CDL (commercial drivers license)
- CPR/First Aid certifications
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Leadership experience
- Carpentry skills
