The Program Coordinator and Professional Advisor for the Salud Scholars program will serve as the first point of contact for Salud Scholars, a health professions workforce development initiative. The program coordinator will oversee new program development and establish program collaboration efforts for the College of Health Professions (CHP) with the Division of Enrollment Management and University Admissions. This position will also provide bilingual Spanish support to students and their families with recruitment, retention and all related student success programming. As a professional advisor and program coordinator, this position will explore programs such as Living Learning Community and will develop additional opportunities and outreach activities directly supporting student success.
Program Management:
- Working directly with CHP leadership and TU Admissions, provide excellent communication, manage meetings, coordinate program Advisory Board, and move strategic priorities forward.
- Develop and implement, following approval, full scale program work plan to establish Salud Scholars as an avenue to support student recruitment and success among Latine/x populations.
Professional Advising:
- Provide excellent student-centered advising for prospective undergraduate students who may drop-in, be first year, transfer, at-risk, undecided/undeclared, not admitted into a screened major, and/or referred by faculty.
- Annually, provide academic advising services to a caseload of Salud Scholars students in one-to-one and small group formats.
- Provide excellent advising to Under Graduate students interested in graduate programming.
- As needed, provide advising and resource supports for graduate students, working in collaboration with specific programs.
Networking:
- Serve as the College’s Salud Scholars liaison with the Academic Advising, Retention & Completion Office; Tutoring & Learning Center; Career Center; and other groups across campus and externally (e.g. community colleges).
- Network with University-wide student support services to provide real time support to students and faculty/staff for a variety of student-centered needs.
Student Recruitment:
- Partner with TU Office of Admissions and the College of Health Professions with operational support, offering tours, information sessions on-site as well as off-site.
- Support TU student recruitment initiatives, such as admitted student receptions, campus visits, etc.
Budget Management:
- Oversee and manage financial resources ensuring accuracy of budget, expenditures and forecast and communicate future needed resources.
- Process payments, transfer funds and manage Salud Scholar budget as directed by Dean.
- Serve as liaison to University Budget Office and Foundation as needed.
- Provide direct budget analysis as needed/requested.
Additional Duties:
- Support college programs and students as needed and assigned.
- Identify additional duties that further support education and workforce diversity in health professions.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- Two years of related work experience.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Latine/x culture.
- Academic background with high level of cultural sensitivity.
- Academic advising knowledge for use working with prospective and undergraduate students with a variety of academic strengths and areas for improvement.
- Strong customer service with a student-centered, welcoming and friendly disposition.
- Excellent bilingual communication skills.
- Ability to connect and collaborate with internal and external constituencies.
- Strong organizational and technology skills including use of Microsoft Excel for tracking advising data and trends and comfort learning new platforms/programs.
- Sound professional judgment, strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, active and empathic listening, and active commitment to teamwork.
- Working knowledge of student services and programs in higher education.
- Working knowledge of healthcare professions and career pathways in healthcare.
- Proficient in Spanish.
Preferred:
- Minimum of two years experience with higher education in positions providing direct service and professional advising assistance to students.
- Work experience or background with health care professions or students.
- Evidence of experience with Latine/x students in support of student success.
- Knowledge of legal and financial aspects affecting Latine/x students.
- Experience with outreach and community engagement with various Latine/x organizations.
- Experience with budget management, social media and website development.
Starting salary is $70,000. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
