The Security and Service Technician is responsible for performing skilled technical work in the installation, maintenance, repair, modification, and testing of access control, closed circuit television (CCTV), security systems hardware and software. Additionally, quality installation practices, including upgrades, disconnects, and troubleshooting of all existing IP and RF based video, voice, and internet services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Install, maintain, or repair security systems, alarm devices, and related equipment, following blueprints of electrical layouts and building plans.
Mount and fasten control panels, door and window contacts, sensors, and video cameras, and attach electrical and telephone wiring to connect components.
Install, maintain and/or repair and test data cable, wiring and other security systems related hardware.
Inspect installation sites and study work orders, building plans, and installation manuals to determine materials requirements and installation procedures have been met.
Drill holes for wiring in wall studs, joists, ceilings, floors, and other areas as required.
Examine systems to locate problems such as loose connections or broken insulation.
Feed cables through access holes, roof spaces, and cavity walls to reach fixture outlets, then position and terminate cables, wires, and strapping.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, and basic network related problems encountered by end-users of the network.
Perform reconnects requested and non-pay disconnects, and changes of service, while adhering to company procedures and safe work practices to provide (or remove) services.
Routinely perform fiber optic troubleshooting with 1310, 1490 and 1550 nm wavelengths
Administer router, access point, Bridge and Wi-Fi processes.
Perform troubleshooting and solution methodologies for IP and LAN
Troubleshoot IP issues from any telecommunications demark to customer premise equipment.
Test and tone all drop wires from equipment room to end user location.
Working knowledge of office automation products and computer peripherals.
Apply knowledge of network security practices and anti-virus programs.
Technology background with ability to grow knowledge in support of customer needs.
Ability to remain current with technologies and research applications.
Proven knowledge of common applications, streamlining services and application processes.
Research new applications, systems, etc. to support customers’ needs.
Ensures accuracy and maintaining required equipment inventory in assigned vehicle. Report low counts of material, to ensure customer’s installations have all required equipment.
Maintain a clean and well-organized vehicle. Vehicles are subject to regular inspections.
Examine schedule and/or emails multiple times per day for all updated changes.
Attend monthly team meetings and any scheduled training.
Complete all installations and service, including all associated paperwork and submit paperwork daily as required. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
High School Diploma or equivalent required, associate degree in Internet Technologies preferred.
Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience installing, testing, and troubleshooting cable, phone and internet or smart home systems; basic understanding of IPV4 and how to assign a computer an IP address.
Fire Alarm Systems Agent (FASA)/Burglar Alarm Systems Agent (BASA) certified.
Must have at least 1 year experience in installation of security systems, camera, and low voltage systems.
Proficiency in using small hand tools and larger power tools.
Must have active and clean, non-restrictive, state issued driver’s license in State hired.
Must be comfortable working on a ladder and all heights. Ability to work days, weekends, evenings, and holidays and participate with on-call rotation as needed.
