Responsibilities
As a Systems Administrator supporting the NIH you will be working directly with scientists to support them with their application, server, and networking needs. The selected candidate will collaborate with other architecture and engineering subject matter experts to support the needs of the customer.
Specific Program Responsibilities
Manage and provide operational support of data availability and retention systems such as server and SAN based backups and enterprise level backup solutions
Create SDS folders using PowerShell script navigating to Vast web interface
Explain provided solutions
Interface with scientists and program personnel to solve problems in creative ways, with minimal impact to the researchers’ projects or time
Reference SOPs to troubleshoot problems and go through the correct processes
Identify and draft updates to SOPs that our outdated and work with Tech Lead to get approved
Participate in ITMB, SCRUM and other customer meetings
Lead meetings when required
Install various applications on computers and troubleshoot legacy scientific applications
Support lab systems that use a NVIDIA A100 HPC machine; use Rocky Linux to run NoMachine and Slurm
Work trouble tickets within the specified SLAs
Install hardware and software as required
Monitor and manage system resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, and response times to maintain operating efficiency
Perform systems security administrative functions, including creating user and equipment profiles and accounts
Other duties may include setting up administrator accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocating mass storage space
Plan and carry out assignments independently providing solutions to technical problems of moderate scope or complexity
The position is full-time onsite located in Bethesda, MD at a customer site, but will require travel to other facilities.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in IT or related technical discipline, and/or equivalent education and experience
Minimum of 2 years systems administration experience
Skills and experience in Windows, Mac, Linux OS
Proven networking knowledge
Knowledge and skills with Rocky Linux, Powershell, Python and ServiceNow
Prior experience in application installation, PATH
Must be able to lift and move servers and boxes weighing approximately 30 - 40 lbs.
Position will require standing, sitting, bending and walking within and between multiple NIH campus buildings
Desired
Prior experience providing service support to high-level scientists and researchers
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
