Overall Job Responsibility:
The physician will work at a UCSF Primary Care practice. The primary responsibility will be full time patient care. The physician will be responsible for caring for patients of all ages as a Family Medicine Physician. The Family Medicine physician oversees the primary care of an assigned panel of patients, evaluation of patient history and physical findings, and efficient completion of medical records for all encounters, including asynchronous work via the patient portal, MyChart. The role requires physicians to alternatively sit, stand, perform diagnostic procedures, and communicate efficiently with staff, colleagues, patients and their family members. Teaching is incorporated into the position. Research, administrative or quality efforts are encouraged. There are productivity standards that must be met after a generous ramp up period is completed.

Duties:
Patient Care:
Provide primary medical care to patients for acute and chronic problems and preventative health needs. Engage in team-based primary care delivery and work within a team-let to provide care that is accessible, coordinated and comprehensive.
Communicate and collaborate with consultants, ancillary care providers, and other members of the medical care team to optimize care coordination for patients in primary care panel.
Communicate and consult with the inpatient hospital team in the care of primary care patients who are admitted in the rare event to the medical, surgical or pediatric services. Provide prompt, medically appropriate transition care for primary care panel patients discharged from the emergency room or inpatient setting.
Provide on call coverage for after-hours phone advice as a member of the pool.
Complete medical records on all patient encounters in a timely fashion consistent with Primary Care Services policies.
A 100% FTE position includes working eight (8) half-day (four hour) clinical sessions per week at the assigned clinic. An additional 20% of time (two four-hour sessions is allocated for administrative time to manage patient panel, participate in team activities and after-hour coverage).
MSP physicians may work upon request either seven (7) or (8) half-day (four hour) clinical sessions per week at the assigned clinic
Exceptions in either case are discussed in the event of extenuating circumstances
Administrative:
Abide by policies of the UCSF Health medical staff and Primary Care Services.
Participate in and share in leadership of continuous quality improvement efforts.
Engage in robust citizenship and support of the practice.
Teaching:
Participate in medical student teaching, practice teaching and other learning which benefits patients, colleagues and professional clinical development.
Faculty physicians are expected to offer a minimum 50 hours of teaching to medical school learners executed concurrent with their clinic
MSP/staff physicians are expected to offer a maximum 50 hours of teaching to medical school learners executed concurrent with their clinic
Other:
In conjunction with other faculty members of DFCM/DGIM, and with the approval of the Practice medical director, the physician may carry out research and/or other creative work.
Participate in Department, School of Medicine, Medical Center, University, and community activities as appropriate.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
The first year compensation is a combination of the Regular Pay and Non-Base Pay salary of $279,000 and the Clinical Incentive which is awarded as a guarantee at the 6-month mark (ie. the meeting of preliminary clinical targets). This brings the total salary for first year to a range of $309,700 to $313,400 depending on successful board certification.

An interest and commitment to teaching and previous practice experience is desirable.
Preference for those speaking two or more languages.
Demonstrated competence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, problem identification and resolution, leadership and teaching
Eligible individuals should have completed an accredited family medicine residency program, be board certified or eligible in Family Medicine, and possess a valid California medical license to practice medicine in the State of California.
Demonstrated excellent communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to document encounters accurately and in a timely manner.
