Assist instructional personnel with the presentation of reading/writing lessons
Assist in the management of student behavior through the use of positive reinforcement strategies and techniques
Score a variety of literacy tests and record test results
Maintain or assist in maintaining an orderly, attractive and positive learning environment
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Basic concepts of child growth and development and developmental behavior characteristics
Student behavior management strategies and techniques
Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar
Basic arithmetical concepts
Routine record management, storage and retrieval systems and procedures
Ability to:
Demonstrate an understanding, patient and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups
Communicate effectively in oral and written form in English
Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office-related machines and equipment
Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a positive educational environment
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults
Use new technology and equipment as it becomes required to perform this job
Requirements / Qualifications
Experience:
• One year of paid or volunteer experience working with students experiencing language deficiencies and remedial instruction needs
Education:
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
• Training or coursework in child growth and development, special education, instructional technology, or a closely related field desirable
All requirements must be provided at time of application

The East Whittier City School District provides educational opportunities (transitional kindergarten through eighth grade, including special education) for approximately 9,000 children. The District employs approximately 1,075 teachers, administrators and support staff. We have 13 schools which operate on a traditional school year schedule.
