Summary of Duties:
The purpose of a Bus Driver Trainer is to provide support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for classroom instruction and behind the wheel
training of bus drivers and bus driver applicants; addressing school bus regulations and safety procedures; identifying training requirements; and maintaining required documentation for audit in compliance with state certification and district/state/federal
requirements. Persons in this classification are frequently required to perform the functions of a Bus Driver.
This job reports to the Transportation Operations Supervisor.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A typical qualifying background would include sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed in the job description to include:
Experience:
Five (5) years of experience in the operation of a school bus; or two (2) years’ experience as a bus driver and three (3) years’ operating vehicles requiring a Class A or B commercial driver’s license; or two (2) years’ experience as a bus driver and one (1) year as a behind-the-wheel trainer including some experience training school bus drivers.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. CERTIFICATES:
Valid California Class A or B commercial driver’s license.
School Bus Driver’s Certificate issued by the California Highway Patrol.
Completion of a Certified State Department Education Driver Instructor Course.
Valid DMV Medical Card.
PROMOTIONAL AND OPEN TESTING – Open to employees of the District and the public with the selection process resulting in one (1) Eligibility List that will be used to fill current vacancies and any future vacancies that occur within one (1) year or until the list becomes exhausted. Current permanent employees of the District will be awarded seniority points as per the contract.
All properly completed applications will be reviewed and the most highly qualified individuals will be invited to continue in the selection process. The process may consist of an evaluation and scoring of application materials, written testing, oral interview and/or performance test to evaluate the applicant’s skill, training and experience.
