About the Employer The Sequoia Union High School District (SUHSD) serves more than 9,000 students in grades 9 through 12 from multiple diverse communities in the mid-Peninsula region between San Francisco and San Jose. The Adult School Counselor supports students and staff in the High School Equivalency (HSE), High School Diploma (HSD), and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs at Sequoia Adult School. The school is located in Menlo Park, about 25 miles south of San Francisco. The candidate provides academic counseling to adult students across three programs, assessing their academic needs, providing intake orientations, ensuring they are placed appropriately, and assisting them in addressing barriers to learning. The Adult School Counselor works closely with adult school transition staff to support students as they transition to college, training or employment. In addition, the counselor provides socio-emotional counseling to students and provides access to community support. The person in this position collaborates with counselors at district high schools to support students transferring to adult school. The candidate also works closely with teachers and administration to monitor student progress and completions and to intervene as needed. The role also supports teachers in the programs by providing guidance and support on student issues, data collection, and credit tracking. This position requires evening work two nights a week and is part of the school’s leadership team.
