Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for an Operations Integration Engineer. This role will have responsibility for the safe commissioning, operation, and performance testing of a new hydrogen production unit, located at Air Products’ existing New Orleans (NOLA) production facility. This unit is a critical priority in the company, and will drive the company’s two-pillar strategy, with a focus on green and blue hydrogen and a foundation of sustainable energy.
The Operations Integration Engineer will have a wide range of responsibilities which will require them to work closely with the local site team and regional/remote engineering support teams. Key activities for the role include participating in final engineering design efforts, supporting the commissioning of the plant, stabilizing operation of the plant, and conducting performance tests in coordination with technical leads.
The role will progress to include engineering activities and support for future product line development. The Integration Engineer will learn all aspects of plant operation and be able to support the implementation of future projects with knowledge from gained that experience.
The candidate must be self-motivated, safety conscious, a good communicator, possess good organization skills, and be ready for a fast-moving environment.

Principal Responsibilities
During Design, Build, and Commissioning Phases:
Act as primary site liaison between the Project Delivery team and the local Operations staff/support.
Drive development of safety practices and procedures for the new chemicals and processes that are introduced with the new plant.
Develop thorough understanding of plant operations and safe operating limits and ensure that information is transferred and sustained within the NOLA Operations team.
Participate in design, operability, and hazard reviews as they are necessary for any modifications.
Drive the development of operating procedures. Lead updates to existing Emergency Response Guide, PSM, and RMP programs.
Be an integral part of plant commissioning for the new hydrogen production unit, including pre-startup safety review support.
Oversee project and commissioning documentation handover from Project Delivery to Operations.
During Start-up and continuing operations:
Serve as primary site contact for Project Delivery and Technology teams.
Establish plant performance KPIs and KPI monitoring.
Troubleshoot plant problems in coordination with Project Delivery and Technology teams.
Coordinate and conduct performance testing with Engineering and Technology teams.
Serve as MOC coordinator for the new hydrogen production unit. Assist in content development, review, implementation, and closeout of MOCs.
Complete monthly production accounting tasks (i.e. consumptions, efficiency, etc.).
Provide direction to shift operators as needed, and at times, outside of normal working hours.
Willing and able to work weekends/nights during non-normal operations (e.g. plant outage).
Support future development of similar technology and its implementation in other locations, globally.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
Experience with high temperature industrial gas production (e.g., hydrogen, CO, syngas) and/or similar chemical or refining processes.
3-8 years of Operations or Engineering experience in a technical support or design role with industrial gas, refining or petrochemical processes.
Desire to make a measurable positive impact to plant performance and profitability.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic operating plant environment.
Self-motivated and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate must be capable of working in a team environment with shared responsibilities.
Able to climb ladders and stairs, and work safely at elevated locations in the unit.
Expected travel is expected to be approximately 5% through initial phases of unit commissioning, start-up, and stabilization. Support of future projects would provide additional international travel opportunities.
