Qualification Guidelines
A typical way to obtain the requisite knowledge and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of this classification is as follows:
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of civil engineering, including three (3) years supervisory and administrative experience related to municipal public works planning, design, construction and administration.
Graduation from a four (4) year accredited college or university with a major course work in civil engineering.
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform essential functions may also be considered.
LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE: Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer from the State of California.
Certification as a Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD) and Practitioner (QSP) is highly desirable.
Possession of a valid Class C driver's license issued from the California Department of Motor Vehicles by date of appointment. Revocation of license during employment may result in disciplinary action or reassignment.

In accordance with Government Code Section 3100 – all City of Costa Mesa employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or a disaster.
