CERTIFICATED PERSONNEL DUTIES
TITLE: Principal - Junior High School and Senior High School
EVALUATED BY: Superintendent
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The School Principal reports to the Superintendent, and under his/her direction performs administrative and management functions in carrying out the day-to-day operational and educational mission of the school and district in accordance with applicable law and educational policies of the Board of Trustees.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Establishes overall short and long-range educational goals for school articulated in school plan.
2. Monitors, facilitates and ensures implementation of all courses of study as adopted by the Board of Trustees, including the use of textbooks and other instructional materials, in content, scope, and sequence through the evaluation and staff development process.
3. Provides leadership through in-service training programs for the development of curriculum and improvement of instruction.
4. Develops and maintains a continuing articulation program with appropriate feeder junior high or elementary schools.
5. Monitors, facilitates and develops instructional objectives for annual school standards of expected student progress for certificated staff.
6. Supervises the performance of all personnel assigned to the school and provides pertinent advice and remediation as needed.
7. Recommends employment, promotion, transfer, reassignment, and termination of all personnel.
8. Selects, assigns and trains department chairpersons.
9. Administers all labor contracts appropriate to the Anaheim Union High School District.
10. Develops, organizes and adjusts as necessary school practices, procedures, rules and regulations to ensure consistent and maximum effectiveness within the local school.
11. Provides expert advice and assistance to local school personnel in all subject matter areas, affairs of the District and/or affairs of the school where he/she serves as educational leader.
12. Interprets, implements and enforces all policies adopted by the Board of Trustees.
13. Directs the development and administration of the school operating budget (instructional and capital outlay) within guidelines provided by the business office.
14. Evaluates condition of buildings, grounds and equipment and initiates necessary corrections and repairs.
15. Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates programs by which staff can communicate with parents and community.
16. Establishes and/or enforces Anaheim Union High School District policies and written school rules and regulations relative to student discipline.
17. Attends and participates in all scheduled principals'/staff meetings.
18. Provides for liaison and communication between school and community, staff and students, including P.T.A., writing and printing handbook, booster clubs, United Fund, service clubs, churches and other areas.
19. Administers the multiplicity of special programs at the site level (i.e.: Special Education, GATE, ESL, SIT, CAPP & SMART).
20. Develop and implement comprehensive plans to maintain a positive safe school climate and an effective learning environment.
21. Develops and implements plans for effective school discipline and classroom management.
22. Evaluates and uses assessment data to improve educational procedures and practices.
23. Monitors attendance policies and procedures, tracks site student enrollment and attends monthly district attendance meetings.
24. Serves and facilitates as a district curriculum administrator or assistant curriculum administrator in area of subject matter expertise.
25. Conducts monthly school site council meetings.
26. Performs other job related duties as required.
