Assist Litigation Managers in managing all medical professional liability claim activity against MLH, focusing on the answering of interrogatories, production of documents, and various discovery requests as required through the litigation process. Gather documentation, information and facts as requested and review accuracy and appropriateness. Conduct EPIC (EMR) audit trails with HIM assistance as appropriate. Work independently and make necessary and appropriate recommendations within ethical parameters. Set reserves when claims are initiated and through life of claim per department policy. Review pleadings, discovery responses and other legal documents, and collaborate with assigned legal counsel on revisions, as required. Review legal expenses for assigned claims. Evaluate potential liability of a general liability claim, through initial investigation and review of medical records, on an ongoing basis. Make recommendation regarding case disposition (i.e., settlement, trial, etc.) to AVP, Claims Management. Attend trial, mediations. and settlement conferences, as required. Close file at conclusion of case, ensure receipt of appropriate closing papers and payment of all outstanding expenses. Maintain computerized (Clear Sight) claims data base and diary system for case files in accordance with department policy. Identify risk reduction strategies for MLH and affiliates and work with key stakeholders to devise and implement methods to reduce risk. Develop and Grow your Career!
