Job Summary
We are seeking a candidate with expertise in public relations to oversee communications, education & public outreach initiatives for the DSA-2000 project. They will provide educational information to the public, develop education and community engagement strategies for all student and public learning initiatives and outreach programs, in addition to managing online content for the DSA 2000. The position requires excellent communications and social skills, the ability to instruct and mentor all age groups across a diverse set of communities, and the ability to establish contact with and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders in the project. The candidate will have strong writing skills and marketing experience with the goal of meeting public outreach objectives. The DSA-2000 is currently in the advanced design phase will be a world-leading radio survey telescope and multi-messenger discovery engine, with first light anticipated in 2026. The array will consist of 2000 x 5 m dishes distributed over a 19 x 15 km diameter area in Nevada,
Essential Job Duties
Reporting to and assisting the Lead Project Manager the candidate will:
Respond to requests for information from the media or designate an appropriate spokesperson or information source within OVRO and the DSA 2000 project.
Write press releases or other media communications to promote the DSA 2000.
Establish or maintain cooperative relationships with representatives within both scientific and local communities.
Plan or direct development or communication of programs to maintain favorable public perceptions of the accomplishments, agenda, and environmental responsibility of the DSA 2000.
Basic Qualifications
Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities with limited supervision.
Experience working with undergraduate students and with academic extracurricular activities.
At least one year of experience in STEM education and public outreach, and engagement with under-served communities and within higher education environments.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Astronomy or Education.
Preferred Qualifications
At least 4 years of combined experience in communications and outreach-based positions.
