Salary
Support Salary Scale Grade S06: $20.01 per hour; starting
Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act this position is non-exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System.
Role
This position supports temporary vacancies/absences in all schools and regions by assuming the role of temporary Site Assistant of the cafeteria. The Floater Site Assistant is responsible for the overall operation of the Food and Nutrition Services facility, as prescribed by Food and Nutrition Services, Board of Education, State and Federal procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
Essential Functions
Reporting directly to the Food and Nutrition Services Specialist, the Food and Nutrition Service Floater Site Assistant performs the following duties:
Essential Functions
Direct and train Food and Nutrition services staff to ensure that established standards are followed.
Implementation of the Free and Reduced Meals Program at the school level.
Actively participates in the receiving, preparation, and serving of food to customers.
Manages accountability programs (ex: meal program inventory, banking, etc.).
Accountable for food quality.
Markets the Food and Nutrition Services program to the school.
Maintain the daily records to include production sheets, temperature sheets, invoices and accountability paperwork including deposits.
Develop daily job work flows and coordinate daily work schedules.
Performs any of the food service worker tasks (ex: cashiering, food preparation, serving, dish room and sanitation), while at all times meeting the Department of Health regulations.
Assures that all recipes are properly followed.
Performs safety, and sanitation standards according to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements.
Manages inventory, orders, and account for food and supplies.
Attend and participate in required in-service training workshops and meetings.
Understand, communicate, and guarantee compliance with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) School Nutrition Regulations.
Daily availability to work overtime to assume the schedule of the school with the absence/vacancy.
Effectively use and train staff on the timeclock to ensure accurate payroll.
Collect all leave forms for staff absences.
Work in the capacity of a site assistant or food service worker in all schools within Frederick County Public Schools.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Food and Nutrition Services Specialist
Two (2) years successful experience in the food service industry.
Certification/License:
Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Current SERV-SAFE Sanitation Certification, including working knowledge of HACCP regulations or the employee must obtain SERV-SAFE Sanitation Certification within six (6) months of hire date.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of computer point-of-sale systems.
Knowledge of financial practices and procedures, including cashiering, bank deposits, and cash accountability.
Ability to reconcile food sold to accountability sales and deposits.
Knowledge of standard sanitation procedures for care and cleaning of kitchen and equipment.
Knowledge of standard sanitation procedures as specified in HACCP, for the safe and sanitary service of food to customers.
Knowledge of quantity food preparation and forecasting to prevent waste.
Effective time management skills.
Proficiency in business math.
Performs the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Communicate effectively in English by reading and in written and spoken formats.
Knowledge and use of culturally responsive practices
Follow dress code and hygiene requirements
Regular and predictable attendance.
Physical Requirements:
Consistently lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
Work in environments subject to extreme hot and cold temperatures, such as commercial kitchens, walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
Ability to spend long hours standing and walking.
Ability to reach with both hands and both arms.
Ability to twist and bend.
Sufficient manual dexterity to grasp, handle, manipulate, and/or feel objects and use office technology.
Sufficient mobility to move about the work area.
Sufficient vision to read and comprehend printed materials, see distant objects with clarity, and identify and distinguish objects.
Occasionally climb or balance.
Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Work Environment:
Regularly work with loud noise, ex: food preparation equipment and raised voices associated with school cafeterias, and commercial kitchens.
Previous food service experience in a public school system.
Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.
