Great Lakes Cheese is seeking an intern at our Plymouth, Wisconsin and Fillmore, Utah locations. From the start, interns are challenged to demonstrate their strengths and apply their knowledge to help us achieve our business strategy. This position is a paid internship.
The Environmental, Health and Safety Intern will work directly for the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager as well as with other company leaders at the assigned facility to advance the company’s environmental, health and safety program and performance.
Job Responsibilities
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Complete weekly and annual refresher training as well as new employee orientation.
Actively guide and participate in efforts to promote safety awareness and increase proficiency of safe work practices.
Conduct workplace safety assessments.
Review incident investigations.
Conduct follow-up investigations.
Assist in tracking, monitoring and closing action items on corrective/preventative action plans.
Compile and communicate safety metrics.
Interpret data to formulate trend analyses.
Develop facility specific safety awareness training modules.
Maintain training documentation and records.
Review and update site procedures and policies as needed.
Participate in site/corporate audit process.
Provide leadership and technical expertise to management and employees.
Required Education and Experience
Actively enrolled in or possessing an associate's or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety Management, Environmental Health and Safety or related field.
Only undergraduate students will be considered for this role.
Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Must be legally authorized to work for a company in the U.S. without sponsorship both now and in the future.
Preferred Education and Experience
Problem solving skills.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong communication, presentation, and team skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Self-motivated with a high level of initiative, able to work well independently.
