A. POSITION PURPOSE

The Department of Bioengineering is seeking applications for a Senior Research Associate, Biomanufacturing Analytics under the guidance of Dr. Prashanth Asuri, who serves as the Director of the Healthcare Innovation and Design Program.

This position will combine technical expertise with the ability to develop strong instructional content. Ideal candidate will have expertise in biopharmaceutical manufacturing analytics and modeling, knowledge of emerging manufacturing modalities, and expertise in Python data programming. S/he will support planning, creation, testing, and revisions of new case-based and work problem content modules. This individual will deliver high-quality tutorials, data packages, and data programming problems and cases, producing thorough keys and code- along video modules. The role will include on-site and virtual meetings and micro-residencies at our partner industry sites. This position requires a highly motivated person with excellent organizational, research and communication skills.

B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Investigate and identify complex multivariate data analysis problems from the bioprocessing and biomanufacturing industry
2. Perform an exhaustive literature review of existing published biopharmaceutical manufacturing data analytics use cases and data sets
3. Develop introductory, intermediate and advanced data analytics content modules, case studies, and companion data sets for dissemination
4. Develop active learning workbooks and tutorials to accompany the training modules and case studies
5. Other related duties as assigned

C. PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION

Ensures that student researchers working under his/her supervision maintain a safe working environment and adhere to standard laboratory practices and guidelines.

D. QUALIFICATIONS

a. Knowledge and Skills

• Demonstrated knowledge in statistical analysis for bioprocessing and biomanufacturing
• Experience in the use of Python for data analytics
• Strong interest in industry-focused applied research

b. Abilities

• Effective planning, prioritization, and organization of workload and assignments, including handling multiple tasks in a timely manner
• Work independently and exercise independent judgment 
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

c. Education and Experience

• Master’s degree (or equivalent experience/training) in bioengineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, computer science/engineering, or related fields
• Five years of relevant experience post-degree in a research environment, particularly with statistical analysis and data analytics.
• Demonstrated interest in producing in-depth, real-world data analytics use cases
• Experience in supervision and direction of student research (preferred but not required)
