Job Description / Essential Elements:Print
Responsibility: Under the direction of the School Principal or his/her secretary, performs a variety of clerical and receptionist duties in support of school office operations.
Essential Functions:
1. Screens and handles telephone calls to the school site and greets the public and helps the staff, community, and students with their questions, concerns, problems.
2. Ability to deal with a wide variety of information on a strictly confidential basis.
3. Assists in requesting, mailing, and filing student records and transcripts.
4. Composes a variety of correspondence, including letters, reports, memoranda bulletins, etc.
5. Assists in maintaining office files and records.
6. Possesses ability to read, understand and carry out oral and written directions.
7. Operates office equipment, including, but not limited to, copy machines, fax machine, computer, etc.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Enters student attendance data and prints absence reports.
2. Signs for and routes all school mail and packages; receives, sorts, and distributes all U.S. and inter district mail.
3. Operates school intercom system; assists with ill or injured students.
4. Telephones parents and confers with parents regarding students' absences and other matters of student welfare.
5. Records use of facilities by parent/teacher groups and outside organizations; maintains master activities calendar.
6. Performs other duties as required by Principal and/or Secretary.
Qualifications:
1. Ability and skills to understand and work in a confidential office.
2. Strong skills in dealing diplomatically and effectively with a wide variety of people.
3. Current First Aid and CPR procedures.
4. Ability to work independently and efficiently under general supervision and with constant interruptions.
5. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; working knowledge of computer and word processing software and general office equipment.
6. Strong command of the English language; excellent spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, proofreading and grammatical skills.
7. Skills and ability to perform clerical work with speed and accuracy. Ability to type 40 words per minute accurately.
Education and Experience:
1. High school graduate.
2. Minimum of one to two years of recent experience as an office clerk or related clerical experience.
Physical Requirements:
1. Position requires normal physical strength and endurance for standing, sitting, bending, or walking.
2. Work assignments are normally located in a work environment with light physical work and require light physical effort.
3. Lifting 25 lbs. maximum or carrying any object weighing over 15 lbs.
