Position Information
The Community Planning, Housing and Development (CPHD) Department is seeking three Permit Center Administrative Technicians to provide direct customer and administrative support to County staff and visitors of the Permit Arlington Center. This position is in our Zoning and Inspection Services Division and reports to the CPHD Customer Experience Manager.
Responsibilities include:
Providing in person customer service and administrative support, including managing phone calls, inter-agency referrals, and processing permit payments;
Providing permit application assistance (new and existing) status updates and guidance to customers and vendors;
Managing the Permit Center calendar, including acting as the first point of contact for subject matter expert staff, evaluating requests for appointments, and scheduling appointments between customers and subject matter staff;
Compiling data and statistics related to customer traffic across in person, email, and phone channels;
Submitting technical support tickets on behalf of customers to the technical support team; and
Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have exceptional customer service and communication skills, the ability to interact with diverse customers from a wide variety of backgrounds and multitask in a fast-paced work environment and be a team-player.
Selection Criteria
Minimum:
High school diploma/equivalent; and
Some experience providing administrative support.
Substitution: Successful completion of additional college coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
Working for the public sector and/or local government;
Specialization in planning, zoning, and/or construction;
File and record management, particularly on cloud, Microsoft OneDrive, and SharePoint;
Using the Arlington County Permit Arlington System; and
Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Special Requirements
This job will also be subject to the Employee Preferences Inventory (EPI) Assessment. Applicants will have a week to complete and only applicants that successfully pass are referred.
A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
Additional Information
Work hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. The employee is expected to be present, during office hours; however, the schedule may be flexible with potential telework based on business needs.
The official job title is Administrative Technician. The pay ranges listed above are effective June 30, 2024.

Over-Strength Position: This is currently a permanent over-strength position which is in the budget for approval in FY2025 as a permanent full-time position. This position is currently eligible for all County-provided benefits.
