POSITION: CREW LEADER/ VOCATIONAL & GED INSTRUCTOR???

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the immediate supervisors-Co-Directors, Professional Services IV will help to develop and train at risk youth in an array of vocational skills through community service activities. Professional Services IV will also provide job related information, personal counseling and basic skills/HSE instructions for the corps members 100% of time is spent on NJ Youth Corps.
· 100% of time is spent on NJ Youth Corps
· 30% of time is spent as a crew leader and vocational instructor
· 10% of time is spent as a counselor
· 60% of time is spent as a basic skills/HSE instructor
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Serve as ABE/GED instructor
· Supervises Youth corps members on work crews
· Develops and teaches vocational courses tailored to work crew needs
· Provides individual vocational plans for Youth Corps members
· Develops work plans for crew site
· Schedules service programs for Youth Corps members
· Provides opportunities designed for youth at risk to analyze, develop and hone their goal setting skills
· Uses a variety of teaching strategies conducive to the various learning styles of the Youth Corps members
· Reinforces the development of goal setting skills of the “youth at risk”, by providing personal and career counseling
· Maintains accurate records of Youth Corps members on work site
EXPERIENCE : At least (1) one year of experience teaching high school or a GED preparation program or experience in corps programs or with urban students.
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree or equivalency determined by the program’s administration and the University. Must have a NJ teacher certification or eligibility to receive certificate. Must have a valid driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
· Basic knowledge of the principles and techniques essential to performance of assigned responsibilities
· Ability to acquire basic knowledge of the University’s policies and procedures
· Ability to establish cooperative working relationships and coordinate with other offices and organizations that impact on assigned responsibilities
· Proficient with graphic design software and tools
· Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
· Strong interpersonal skills
· Knowledge of teaching strategies and students’ learning styles
· Knowledge of motivational techniques and behavioral modification strategies
· Basic skills
