The Jacobs Science and Exploration Department (SED) seeks an Exploration Lab Manager to manage operations for the Simulant Development Lab (SDL) and participate in lunar exploration activities. The Exploration Lab Manager will provide support within NASA's Astromaterials Research & Exploration Science (ARES) divisions on various projects related to planetary and exploration science simulants for NASA's Artemis missions and other programs. This position is only offered in person and onsite in Houston, TX at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC). on Lab Mana
The Exploratiger will:
- Be the primary lab manager and point of contact contractor for the Simulant Development Lab (SDL)
- Adhere to all ARES Lab Manager responsibilities which include: lab safety, documentation, requirements, inventory, purchasing, equipment usage and upkeep, user training, and other duties as assigned
- Work closely with JSC Safety and Occupational Health Specialists
- Set up, maintain, run samples, coordinate service contracts, and train users of all equipment and analytical instruments within the SDL. Including, but not limited to: particle size analyzer, microscopes, sieve shakers, rock crushers and tumblers, test bins, ovens, balances/scales, glove boxes, and other equipment
- Coordinate with external lab users to ensure test setups are conducted in safe and effective manner
- Advocate for lab and simulant usage across JSC and its partners, coordinate with stakeholders, provide tours of lab, educate interested simulant users on physical and chemical properties of available simulants
- Attend planetary conferences, present active simulant projects
- Maintain content of SDL-ARES webpages, SharePoint, Teams; track lab usage and provide weekly, monthly, and quarterly status updates as needed
- Work collaboratively across ARES laboratories and JSC facilities which may include: Simulant Development Lab (SDL), Advanced Concepts for Exploration (ACE), Field Equipment for Exploration Training and Testing Lab (FEETT) and other exploration, research, and curation facilities and engineering facilities
- Design, develop, and test experiments related to planetary simulants, testing, and exploration science
- Work dynamically on and with teams of scientists, engineers, and other aerospace professionals to develop and perform tests for planetary exploration

Requisition Qualifications:

- A BS degree is typically required
- Geoscience laboratory experience?
Requisition Preferences:
- ?Bachelor of Science in geoscience or closely related field - or -
- Master of Science in geoscience, environmental science, or closely related field
- Prior experience working at NASA JSC
- Experience working with planetary materials and simulants in a laboratory setting
- Knowledge of Earth, Moon, Mars and other planetary bodies?

Essential Functions
Work Environment
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
