Position Overview: Under general supervision, the Laboratory Services Manager will provide comprehensive oversight and management of the laboratory. Individuals in this role will be responsible for policies and procedures, administering resources, overseeing testing development and validation, verifying critical assays, managing finances and procurement, and ensuring compliance with regulations and safety standards.
The Laboratory Services Manager is expected to have excellent communication skills, knowledge of various laboratory assays, techniques, equipment, and laws surrounding working at a laboratory, and knowledge of good laboratory practices.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Laboratory Oversight: Manages all aspects of the laboratory including formulating and administering policies and procedures, financial and physical resources, and setting all laboratory goals.
Laboratory Management: Oversees all aspects of testing development, including the validation and verification processes to ensure the microbiological assays used are adequate to determine accuracy, precision, and other applicable performance characteristics of the methods.
Financial Oversight: Collaborates with the Mosquito Vector Control Director to seek avenues of cost containment to plan lab logistics accordingly, while overseeing lab service budgets, procurement, and expenditures, and confirming the accuracy of lab supplies, reagents, and equipment.
Compliance Assurance: Maintains the safety and security of lab facilities by ensuring the laboratory is up to date on all relevant protocols, regulations, standards, and safety procedures, while overseeing Quality Management Activities to guarantee quality assurance and quality control. As well as verifying that all certifications, permits, and licensing for lab personnel and equipment remain current and valid.
Assurance and Compliance: Develops and manages all laboratory services including planning, implementing, evaluating, troubleshooting, and testing for proficiency to produce quality results.
Additional Task: Performs additional assigned duties including responding to emergency events.

Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or other related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
At least three (3) years of experience in general biology laboratory.
At least three (3) years of experience in microbiology techniques and instrumentation.
At least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Licenses/Certifications:
Must possess or obtain a valid Texas drivers license and clean driving record at time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of good laboratory practice (GLP).
Knowledge of various laboratory assays, microbiology techniques, instrumentation and equipment.
Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing the services and work of laboratories.
Skilled in planning, organizing, and directing the work of others.

This is a full-time position
Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. Hours may vary depending on mosquito-borne disease activity.
May be required to work long and irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, in circumstances of public health or infectious disease emergency or potential for such.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a laboratory and office setting.
Physical Demands:
Persons in this positions frequently lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing up to 10 lbs. They also occasionally move objects weighing up to 20 lbs., and sometimes, but rarely, up to 50 lbs.
