Position Overview:
The Database Developer supports Harris County Universal Services database solutions. As part of an Agile software team this position designs, updates, and supports database solutions in collaboration with software developers, quality assurance, and business analysts to meet customer requirements.
Job Duties:
Design, update, and support databases, schema, stored procedures, views, and triggers
Create and run ad-hoc SQL queries as needed
Create and maintain reports (SQL Server Reporting Services) as needed
Create and maintain data transformations (SQL Server Integration Services)
Monitor ticket queue for incoming teamwork and ensure work is completed based on priority
Manage database users and maintain system security
Understand and monitor application performance impacts related to databases
Monitor and optimize the performance of the database
Ensure that new SQL Server databases are configured to the Application specific standard/specs defined in the Runbook and not just using the default install configuration
Maintain on-going learning to keep up with the fast pace of changing technologies, such as SQL Server, available client/servers, types of replications, and database design tools
Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field.
Experience:
5-8 years demonstrable experience as a database developer with a focus on Microsoft's SQL Server platform.
Knowledge, Skill & Abilities (KSAs):
Must possess excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
The ability to interact with staff at all levels. knowledge of database development tools including Microsoft Office, Microsoft SQL Server (and subsequent tools), SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Integration Services, and Visual Studio.
Strong conceptualization, analytical, and logic skills
Ability to work multiple projects, understanding of release planning and change management.

Experience:
Three (3) years experience with Agile software development working with software developers, quality assurance, and business analysts.

Hybrid Schedule
May be required to work more than forty hours during the workweek and/or weekends or on-call 24 hours a day to meet special projects or deadlines
