The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation Southern Region Parks Division seeks an experienced Principal Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker III - CDL to perform skilled park maintenance work involving moderate responsibility, complexity, and variety. The successful candidate will perform a variety of maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, trash removal, athletic field maintenance, trail maintenance, and snow removal by working in a team environment and occasionally leading small groups of career and/or intermittent employees. The ideal candidate should possess skills to operate trucks, tractors with attachments, large riding mowers, loaders, forklifts, and other such equipment. The workdays are scheduled for Tuesday-Saturday, however, work schedules may change to Monday-Friday or Sunday-Thursday to best fit the work program. The work hours are generally 6:00am-2:45pm but may also vary depending on your assignment.
Hiring Range: $40,710 - $56,405 with growth potential to $72,101. Salary commensurate with experience.

Examples of Important Duties
Operates riding mowers and tractors with attachments to cut parks, ballfields and brush.
Operates trucks, truck and trailer combinations, front-end loader, backhoe, dump trucks with snow plows, and trash trucks, Operates complex equipment and vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating requiring a CDL. Using trucks and heavy equipment removes snow, grades fields and other park areas, and hauls materials and equipment.
Uses small equipment and hand tools for grounds maintenance.
Performs routine safety inspection and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
Maintains athletic fields, according to established standards. Lays out field (for example, measures, plots and squares corners, plots yard lines, and marks lines).
Installs amenities associated with athletic fields. Aerates turf areas.
Installs amenities such as signs, grills, picnic tables, fence, basketball rims & nets, tennis poles and nets, etc.
Performs minor tree maintenance duties. Operates chain saws. Operates chipping machine to grind brush into mulch. Operates stump grinder to remove tree stumps. Clears trails of branches and debris.
Inspects and reports unsafe and hazardous conditions of play equipment, parks or trails.
On a regular basis, provides general direction and instructions on proper procedures and safety to a small work group. Informs Leader or Supervisor of job progress and completion and any problems requiring attention.
Provides assistance setting up special events and transporting stages requiring a CDL.
Provides general assistance to park visitors. Assists in monitoring programs and events.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total four (4) years.
Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.
Pass Commission medical examination.
Depending upon the area of assignment, some positions in this class require within 12 months of hire (a) Commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements; (b) obtainment of certifications including:

Primarily works outside, but may work inside on occasion or as assigned. May work weekends, evenings, and holidays. Exposed to weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (for example, bees, hornets, wasps, etc.).
