We are seeking an outstanding scientific leader and proven biotechnology product development expert to join the New Product Development team and lead a group dedicated to downstream development and transfer of products from R&D into production. New Product Development acts as the interface between R&D and Operations. The team is involved in all stages of product development from concept to post-launch activities.
The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the NPI team and guiding the technology transfer of all reagent and consumable (non-instrument) based products into full production. This is a cross-disciplinary position that will work closely with a variety of R&D groups as well as Operations and Marketing to develop, validate, manufacture, and ship new 10x products. Candidates must have a broad working knowledge of molecular biology and be able to apply that knowledge independently and creatively toward the development of single cell and spatial biology products. Previous experience with product devolvement as demonstrated by significant end to end contributions toward multiple commercially launched products is essential. The successful applicant will have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to meticulously design, execute, and analyze highly complex experiments.
Individuals applying for this position must be self-starters, strategic thinkers, action driven, flexible in changing direction and methods, thrive in a fast paced environment, excel at managing multiple priorities, succeed in communicating with all levels within the organization and provide immediate contribution.
What you will be doing:

- Drive the technology transfer phase of the product development pipeline for all new 10x products
- Ensure that team milestones and deliverables are met or exceeded throughout development and products are transferred seamlessly to a production environment in time for product launch
- Train and mentor your staff on the science and processes involved in NPI
- Collaborate with the Operations teams to develop new infrastructure and streamline the product development process
- Guide team members through the development, validation, and implementation of new QC methods to assess reagents and kits through a variety of analytical and functional tests.
- Troubleshooting and resolving reagent formulation, QC, and incoming material issues and guiding team members to do the same.
- Design experiments to determine underlying reaction mechanisms, cause and effect, failure modes, guard band studies and optimization using DOE methodologies.
- Work on new products in an individual contributor context as necessary
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, cell biology, immunology, biological engineering, or related fields.
- 10 years relevant biotechnology industry experience in product and/or process development with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Broad expertise in the development and applications of single cell and spatial biology assays
- Significant contributions in all stages of product development (concept to post-launch) of successful customer-facing products
- Deep understanding and previous collaborations with biotech manufacturing, quality, procurement, and other operations-based teams
- 5 years of direct people management experience including hiring, managing, and mentoring scientists at all levels
- Previous work with custom reagent suppliers and setting up successful, long standing OEM relationships.
- Experience using statistical tools, such as JMP to analyze complex data sets, create DOE experiments, and data trending.
- Experience developing and implementing novel QC methods to assess reagent performance in both functional and orthogonal assays.
- Proven ability to write SOPs and train others to successfully perform the work.
- Exceptionally strong collaboration and communication skills.
Preferred Skills and Background:
- Expertise working with human and animal tissues and cells
- Previous work guiding the development of new manufacturing and production infrastructure.
