SHIELDS’ mission is to develop, deliver and evaluate culturally sensitive, comprehensive service models that empower and advocate for high-risk families in South Los Angeles.
Depending on specific program assignment, may perform any or all of the following:
- Transport clients to and from program sites, appointments, and other scheduled activities.
- Assist with the daily operations of SHIELDS program functioning via conducting activities mail, food, and other program operation deliveries.
- Completes all required documentation and reports per funding / agency requirements.
- Ensure vehicles are properly maintained and are in compliance with safety standards.

HIPAA Privacy Standards Compliance
(All items listed below are a condition of continued employment)
The employee in this position will:
- Not use or disclose protected health information about any member or other party in compliance with SHIELDS policies related to state or federal laws such as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Use appropriate safeguards to protect the confidentiality of such information.
- Report to SHIELDS management any use or disclosure of protected health information not permitted by SHIELDS policies related to state or federal laws such as HIPAA.
- Participate in SHIELDS training or briefings on HIPAA information as scheduled.
- Consult with supervisor on any issues or questions about compliance under SHIELDS policies related to state or federal laws such as HIPAA.
Position Requirements

To perform effectively in this position, the employee must meet the following requirements:
- Proof of High School diploma or equivalent.
- Current Class B drivers’ license.
- Current California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier reflected by current H6 DMV printout.
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of facility operations and procedures.
- Know and comply with Agency policies and procedures, HIPAA, Department of Mental Health, policies and documentation guidelines, and other state/federal regulations relating to service programs for at risk populations.
- Efficiently use the personal computer to include a variety or word processing software.
- Utilize analysis, experience, and judgment to make decisions.
- Demonstrate commitment to team objectives and SHIELDS For Families philosophies.
- Adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
- Provides services within a culturally sensitive model of practice and is respectful to the community and clients.
- These requirements are two years experience working with at risk individuals and families in a social service/mental health environment.
- The employee in this position must be able to perform this job safely, without endangering the health or safety of him/her or others.
