Job Description
The Film Strategy and Business Development department is a highly visible group that works closely with senior executive management across NBCUniversal and Comcast. The group works in conjunction with other business units within Universal Filmed Entertainment on a wide range of strategic initiatives including evaluating potential acquisitions, reviewing worldwide windowing and distribution strategies, and exploring new business opportunities.
Universal Filmed Entertainment seeks a highly qualified candidate for the position of Vice President, Strategy and Business Development. This position will manage deal analysis activities across Universal Filmed Entertainment. Specific projects will include film greenlighting, research, analysis, modeling, and recommendations related to emerging industry trends, new business opportunities and existing businesses. The position offers unique exposure to a wide variety of businesses within the media and entertainment industry.
Essential Responsibilities:
Provide day to day support to Business Affairs team in deal negotiations via financial scenario analysis
Lead junior resources in preparing film ultimate P&Ls related to film acquisitions, film financing, and production
Analyze impact of distribution strategy (theatrical and non-theatrical) and windowing economics on film profitability
Support the Chief Business Officer in developing and executing cross-portfolio initiatives and strategies across the NBCU Studio Group
Work closely with groups across Universal Pictures throughout film greenlight process
Formulate presentations for executive management on current UFEG and NBCU Studio Group initiatives
Mentor junior team members and ensure that the team maintains highest quality deliverables
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
A minimum of 10 years of work experience in business development, strategic planning, or financial planning & analysis roles.
At least seven (7) years of content deal analysis experience in the entertainment industry at a film or television studio, streaming platform, production company, or talent agency.
Desired Qualifications
Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, including significant financial modeling experience.
Deep understanding of the film industry, the broader media industry, and relevant business models
Proven track record of hands-on Excel modeling & PowerPoint presentation experience.
Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with multiple levels of management, ranging from senior corporate executives to business unit managers and third parties, in a fast-paced, innovative, and highly energetic corporate culture.
Outstanding verbal and written communications skills with a proven ability to synthesize complex analyses into easily-interpreted recommendations to senior management and key stakeholder, sharing insights and making recommendations.
Ability to successfully collaborate as part of a team and to serve as a mentor to the more junior team members.
Proven ability to work under deadline pressures with minimal supervision and a willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to drive tasks to completion.
