Location: This position is 100% in person at 2650 Senter Road. Some presence may be required at our other location at 1560 Berger Drive.
Travel: Local travel may be required < 5% of the time between the Berger and Senter locations.

Position Summary:
The Art teacher will teach high school Art courses. The teacher will be responsible for connecting academic content with contemporary issues, community projects and a youth development approach.

Basic Function
Perform the day to day activities associated with presentation of the curriculum of the school program to the students of the corps.
I) DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Administrative:
• Understand and be committed to San Jose Conservation Corps vision, mission and objectives
• Have a clear understanding of the Corps Board role and function.
• Understand and be committed to the Charter School vision, mission and objectives
• Design and utilize class roster/report attendance in accordance with establishes rules and policies
• Perform written monthly assessment of failing student progress
• Prepare progress reports and other administrative reports as necessary
• Maintain work samples and required log sheets in accordance with established Charter School policies and procedures
• Be involved in and support extra-curricular activities in order to promote a positive Charter School program
Instruction:
• Design and develop course curriculum and materials for all courses
• Provide instruction appropriate to varying educational abilities within each classroom setting
• Understand the variety of learning styles and techniques in the classroom
• Have knowledge and awareness of factors which may limit student progress such as socio-economic, psychological emotional and/or learning disabilities
• Liase with field supervisors as required
• Provide relevant educational; lessons for students on work site
• Organize, attend and supervise field trips as appropriate
Advising/Case Management:
• Schedule time to meet with students individually
• Assist with placement of students in appropriate intervention programs
• Support students in situations that may interfere with successful completion of educational programs (court appearances, etc…)
Personal Development
• Be a positive role model for all students; present a positive image of yourself and the Charter School to the community
• Continually pursue growth and professional development
• Attend staff development sessions in accordance with established pollicies and procedures
• Attend professional conferences and seminars as approved; continually seek learning experiences
II) KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
• All subject matters to be presented
• Operation, procedures terminology, specific rules and precedents of Charter School program
• Policies and objectives of Charter School program
• School organization, operations policies and objectives
• Laws, rules and regulations related to Charter School activities
• Operation of office machines including computers and specifies software applications
• Statistical record keeping
• Modern office practices, procedures and equipment
• Interpersonal skills issuing tact, patience and courtesy
• Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
• Telephone technique and etiquette
• Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws
III) ABILITY TO:
• Perform a variety of responsible and specialized academic and administrative works
• Assist the Principal with administrative matters requiring knowledge of Charter School policies, procedures and related codes and laws
• Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulation, policies and procedures
• Exercise independent judgement and analysis to coordinate operation
• Maintain records and prepare reports
• Operate a variety of office equipment including word processor, computer, printer, FAX machine, copier, etc…
