| Overview | The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University and the center of the undergraduate experience on the Rutgers–New Brunswick campus and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning the liberal arts.

| Posting Summary | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Dean I Supervisor for the Undergrad Education – Academic Services department within the School of Arts & Sciences. The Assistant Dean I Spvr and Director of the Office for First-Year Advising reports directly to the Associate Dean and Director of the Office of Advising and Academic Services (OAAS) and holds a seat on the OAAS Leadership Council comprised of the Associate Dean and OAAS Directors.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: - Provides overall leadership and direction for all aspects regarding first-year students at the School of Arts and Sciences in New Brunswick, from initial contact through the first year, including recruitment, testing, advising, registration, assessment of credits, and continued developmental advising initiatives.
- Anticipates complex functional needs and develops recommendations and solutions for problems, policies and services that meet the needs of first-year students while coordinating with the priorities of SAS and the overall University.
- Develops recommendations and solutions for programs, policies, and services that meet academic, judicial, career readiness, and special population needs of all incoming SAS first-year students.
- Oversees evaluation and requisite schedule updates for Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and precollege credits for all School of Arts and Sciences students.
- Designs and implements large-scale advising programs to facilitate the advising and registration of 4,000 new students as well as creating equitable options for out-of-state and international students.
- Supervises professional, support and student staff and designs and coordinates all efforts relating to first-year student advising.
- Collaborates with internal constituents, such as individual Academic departments, Student Life, Deans of Students, Registrar, Academic Scheduling and Instructional Space, Rutgers Global, and Enrollment Management, and external agencies such as the College Board, International Baccalaureate, high school guidance departments, and the National Academic Advising Association, toward the goal of best practices and enhancing first-year student transition.
- Provides leadership for university-wide initiatives by serving collaboratively and forging strategic alliances to accomplish university goals; these initiatives include service on university committees and collaboration with the other New Brunswick undergraduate schools.
- Contributes to the overall leadership and direction for all functions of the SAS Advising Center on Livingston Campus, anticipating complex functional needs and providing solutions to serve the students who seek advising and academic assistance on the Livingston Campus.
- Provides seasoned leadership and guidance, with strong organizational, communication, problem solving and decision-making abilities in a complex, diverse environment.
