Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform routine technical work pertaining to the inspection of construction and methods and materials used on Parish construction and maintenance projects for adherence to established engineering standards and regulations. Employees perform inspection duties for an assigned area of the Parish. Examples of assignment areas are streets administration, pedestrian and vehicle bridge administration, drainage administration, sidewalk/driveway apron administration, and community development.
For the current job opening, this position works under the guidance of the Engineering-Inspection Division Supervisor. Employee performs inspections of roadways, sidewalks-driveway aprons, and street drainage. Position reviews and investigates Parish street right-of-way infrastructure complaints, records data, and prepares estimates of repair and material cost accordingly. Inspects workmanship and material quantities for compliance with established construction specifications. Assists the Project Coordinator and field Inspectors to obtain field data; measurements, photos, obtaining elevation differences and slope percentages for sidewalk and driveway restoration contracts. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or her designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
Minimum age of 18 years; PLUS, possession of a high school diploma/equivalent certificate or successful completion of a vocational or trade school program (i.e., not limited to a short, specific training course).
