The Role
The Manager of Technical Accounting will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of the company's financial reporting and accounting practices. This position involves researching and interpreting complex accounting standards, implementing new accounting policies, providing guidance on technical accounting issues, and evaluating accounting for deal and transaction structures. In addition, the position includes the accounting for the Company’s derivative and hedge transactions and share-based compensation equity accounting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public accounting and a deep understanding of GAAP and SEC regulations, with specific experience in real estate accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
Research and Analysis:
- Research and interpret new and existing accounting standards and regulations (GAAP, SEC) and assess their impact on the company's financial statements, particularly in the context of real estate.
- Stay updated on emerging accounting issues and trends relevant to the real estate industry and support the industry accounting and disclosure practice.
- Assist in the preparation of SEC disclosures.
Policy Implementation:
- Develop, document, and implement accounting policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in the application of accounting principles across the organization, with a focus on real estate transactions and operations.
Business Support:
- Provide technical accounting guidance to various departments, including Investments, Finance, and Tax.
- Assist in the evaluation and accounting for complex transactions, such as property acquisitions, development projects, leasing arrangements, joint ventures, debt, restructurings, and revenue recognition related to real estate.
Derivatives & Share-based Compensation:
- Evaluate and assess hedge transactions and the on-going accounting assessment for those transactions.
- Head the Company’s share-based compensation accounting and equity transactions.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA or equivalent certification required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in public accounting with technical accounting, Big 4 background preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
- Experience in real estate accounting, including familiarity with industry-specific accounting practices and regulations preferred.
Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
