HVAC Mechanic - Planning & Facilities Management - Georgetown University
The HVAC Mechanic provides a direct service to the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn and work. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Perform technical trades work to maintain heating, ventilating and air conditioning and/or refrigeration equipment as part of the services provided by the facilities management department to maintain University
buildings - Complete all repairs /maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems and components up to DDC / energy management panels - including but not limited to all work associated with pneumatic thermostats, calibrating; pneumatic actuators, main air distribution lines; branch air distribution lines; all pneumatic end devices, compressors, dryers, filters, and PRV stations.
- Perform journeyman level maintenance and repairs in accordance with industry/trade practices
- Provide daily maintenance support to building users to respond to calls for service, make scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and similar service
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled or special work such as overhauls, replacements, surveys and similar projects
- Use all standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade
- Observe all safety rules, regulations and precautions in performing their duties
Work Interactions
Depending upon the area assigned, the HVAC Mechanic reports directly to the Mechanical Shop Supervisor or to one of the Zone Managers or to the Preventive Maintenance Manager along with tradesmen and trades helpers.
Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency
- 4 to 5 years of experience in Commercial, Light commercial and Residential HVAC/refrigeration
- Universal EPA – CFC certification
- Completed apprenticeship or four years of equivalent training in the heating/ventilating and air conditioning and refrigeration trade
- General knowledge of DDC/EMS system and computer controls and a good working knowledge of pneumatic controls
- Computer literacy
- A valid driver’s permit from Maryland, District of Columbia or Virginia
Preferred qualification
License as Journeyman or Master HVAC
