Job Announcement
Assists in the life cycle of borrowing material from other lending institutions for our customers. Responsibilities include verifying eligibility of a customer for the ILL service; approving registrations; searching and placing requests using software interface and a variety of online databases and search tools; receiving loaned material from lending institutions; processing receipt of materials and physically and electronically preparing items for transfer to library branches; processing renewal requests; and processing the return of loaned materials and packing in accordance with lender instructions. Communicates professionally and effectively by telephone and email with customers, branch staff and lending institutions. Assists with lending of Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) material. Performs other duties as may be assigned to further the goals and objectives of FCPL. Works under supervision of the Interlibrary Loan Manager.
Note: The assigned functional areas for this position include general administrative assistance, library services, and/or customer service.

Salary disclaimer: The hourly rate offer will not exceed the midpoint ($27.8829) of the advertised compensation range. Compensation rules apply per Fairfax County personnel regulations for current Fairfax County Government and Fairfax County Public Schools employees.
Schedule: Scheduling flexibility is imperative. Occasional overtime may be required. The schedule may vary depending on the needs of the library.

Employment Standards

Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and two years of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least three years of administrative experience in a library setting.
At least three years of experience using library databases/interlibrary loan systems.
At least one year of experience entering, modifying, and extracting data from an automated database and/or web-based online application.
At least two years of front-line customer service.
Experience using library databases: OCLC Worldshare, WorldCat, FirstSearch, and ILLiad.
Ability to be detail-oriented and organized in a multi-tasking work environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications, i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Degree studies in Library Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related fields.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to apply pressure to folding tool. Ability to lift books and materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Ability to load and unload (bending, stretching) materials of various sizes and weights from bins. Ability to open/repackage library materials, using scissors, utility knife, and staple remover. Ability to pull and tear 3.5 mil thick packaging tape. Ability to push / pull loaded bins weighing up to 150 pounds across carpeted floors. Requires 15 lbs. to 20 lbs. of initial [starting] force, and a sustained force of 7lbs. to 10 lbs., after initial acceleration. Ability to push / pull wheeled book carts. Physical requirements are applicable to all duties. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
