JOB PURPOSE:

The mission of the Office of Accessible Education (OAE) is to promote an accessible and inclusive environment for all students with disabilities. Through both academic and housing accommodations, we work to mitigate physical and attitudinal barriers that students might face. We are dedicated to supporting students with disabilities so they have the opportunity to perform at their academic potential. The Office of Accessible Education is a department within the division of Student Affairs which centers its work on case-by-case accommodation determinations and programmatic development for furthering accessibility and inclusion across the division and campus. Each Disability Advising Manager will lead a team of disability advisers focused on one of two student populations: undergraduates and coterminal masters students; graduate and professional school students (schools of business, law, and medicine).
In addition, the Disability Advising Managers will advise the OAE leadership team on strategy, vision and direction regarding issues and objectives impacting our students, campus partners, and the university. They’ll collaborate with cross functional areas and schools to help implement this vision and strategy. These positions will report to Director of Disability Advising in the OAE.

CORE DUTIES:
Manage people, processes, and programs to implement the goals of the unit, department, or school. Make hiring decisions, provide coaching and mentoring, and manage performance and staffing levels. o Oversee and manage the disability advisers who carry a caseload of OAE-registered students; processes related to determination of accommodations for these students, including fundamental alteration and reasonable alternatives to an accommodation. o Assess and manage staffing levels to ensure the department operates efficiently and effectively. Collaborate with the Director of Disability advising to make strategic hiring and staffing decisions. o Identify and support goals and additional training needs of disability advisors. Hold regular one-on ones, perform regular check-ins, annual reviews to ensure continuous support and development for each advisor. Conduct one-on-ones on a consistent cadence with each direct report. Documenting quarterly check-ins and annual performance reviews.
Identify, clarify, and resolve program issues and concerns with substantial significance in accordance with established policies and procedures which may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment. Mediate complex and sensitive issues.
o Be the point of escalation for disability advisers (direct reports) to clarify and resolve academic, exam, and housing accommodations in accordance with established policies and procedures that may span multiple relevant areas (e.g., VPGE, VPUE, BOSP, R&DE, DOS, GLO CTL, and the seven schools), using advanced professional knowledge requiring independent judgment. o Mediate complex and sensitive disability issues when a student disagrees with a disability adviser’s assessment of eligibility for academic and/or housing accommodations. o Mediate complex issues with faculty and/or academic programs as it relates to accommodations creating a fundamental alteration to course or learning objectives, assessment outcomes, and programmatic goals.
Respond to inquiries regarding university policies and procedures requiring interpretation; provide recommendations for correction. o Be a subject matter expert on disability accommodations and respond to inquiries regarding federal and state mandates (e.g., Section 504) in addition to university policies and procedures requiring interpretation. Stay current with changes in state and federal regulations and best practice to ensure the department’s compliance and effective implementation of accommodations. o Act as a strategic thought partner with the units that are key to student academic careers, housing, and dining. Provide recommendations for alternatives to accommodations that may pose a fundamental alteration to course or programmatic objective
Develop long range planning and policy development for a school or program. Manage, develop, and forecast department and program budgets.
o Stay informed on national trends, with professional organizations (e.g., AHEAD), current legislation, and guidance from the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education to advise and provide inputs to the Director of Disability Advising on long range planning and policy implementation.
Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with university, academic and administrative policies within an organization or program. Recommend new internal policies, guidelines and procedures. o Determine whether students with disabilities who register with the Office of Accessible Education qualify for academic and/or housing accommodations on a case-by-case basis in accordance with state and federal disability law and frameworks.
o Perform reasonability assessments in partnership with campus partners, including, but not limited to: faculty and staff in VPGE, VPUE (BOSP, NSO) R&DE, GLO, DOS, CTL and the seven schools in order to provide individualized assessments of feasibility and reasonability of accommodations for assigned students. These may be students requiring a higher touch, or who have already requested a change to their disability adviser.
Independently make decisions regarding projects and initiatives within confines established by management. Represent school/department programs and initiatives to both internal and external constituents.
Identify, manage relationships with campus partners in R&DE (housing assignment services, nutritionists, facilities); VPGE, VPUE (BOSP, NSO) R&DE, GLO, DOS, CTL and the seven schools. o Understand the processes, timelines, and workflows of these partners to inform and improve internal processes, timelines, and workflows.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Relevant experience in higher education settings highly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive experience with reasonability assessments on complex academic and housing accommodations for students in higher education, including: undergraduates, coterminal masters students; graduate students; professional school students (e.g., law, business, and medicine/health sciences)
Advanced written and oral communication skills suitable for reaching audiences ranging from students to senior leadership.
Strong leadership and strategic management skills.
Robust analytical skills to review and analyze complex student information.
Deep understanding of the state and federal laws and regulations that govern disability accommodations in higher education.
Proficient with Microsoft Suite, Google Apps, Slack, and Zoom.
Experience using Salesforce desired, but not required.
Proficient knowledge of essential technological needs and requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a hybrid position requiring at least 3 days of onsite work per week and more as needed to meet student and departmental needs.

The expected pay range for this position is $97,000 - $ 130,764 per annum.
