SUMMARY

Paragon, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation, is looking for a Superintendent. The Superintendent will review the schedule against the construction activity, coordinate on-site workforce, coordinate subcontractors, conduct weekly meetings, and submit reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position, and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.

• Supervise and perform on-site work to ensure the project meets the schedule
• Coordinate the material subcontractor(s) and suppliers’ requirements with the Project/Construction Manager
• Inspect the work of each trade and confirm that not only the quality of the work is up to standard, but that the work is being built in accordance with work plans and specifications
• Ensure that the project maintains the required schedule by organizing, planning, monitoring, and inspecting work
• Prepare daily progress reports for work performed
• Maintain and enforce safety regulations and building code requirements
• Ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner and may serve as the site Safety Representative
• Organize and run weekly safety meetings with in-house trade staff and subcontractor(s)
• Direct, manage, supervise, work with and coordinate the activities of the various trade groups such as Carpenters, Laborers, Equipment Operators, etc. and Subcontractors on the site to meet the work requirements as described in the plans and specifications or the statement of work on the individual delivery order(s) or Contracts
• Coordinate with the Project Manager or Construction Manager to ensure that the work progresses according to the schedule, that materials and equipment are delivered to the site on time, that the subcontractor(s) are on the project when required and progress in accordance with the schedule, and that the activities of the various workers do not interfere with one another
• Work with the tools and assists with the coordination between the subcontractor(s), in house workforce and material suppliers
• Perform other related duties as required
• Must have the ability to travel to jobsites throughout the country.

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum) Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of supervisory construction experience
• Must have experience with civil and remediation construction
• Must have knowledge of applicable codes and regulation
• Must have 10 hr and 30 hr OSHA certifications
• Must have current CPR/First aid certifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

• Must have proficiency in Microsoft computer applications
• Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate the work requirements with various staff and subcontractors
• Must have the ability to prioritize, organize and work well under stress and maintain deadlines
• Must have the ability to be flexible and adapt to constant change
• Must have the ability to work flexible hours in order to meet deadlines
• Must have knowledge of acceptable construction site practices including occupational safety and health regulations
• Must have the ability to communicate both orally and in writing with internal and external clients and co-workers
• Must have the ability to follow direction
• Must determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to complete each task assignment
• Must be comfortable with high intensity work environment
• Must be able to pass a background check as a condition of employment and obtain access to military installations is required

Preferred

• Ten (10) years’ experience in the building trades is preferred
• Experience with Government contracting is preferred
• Contractor Quality Control Certificate is preferred (USACE CQ/CM Course)

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, and sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time. Construction Superintendents perform some work in office trailer; the remainder of work required is performed outdoors or at the project location.

Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. Some lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds required. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Travel is required for this role.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises direct reports.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work.
