Position description
We seek applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar to research (a) post-pandemic travel behavior and its implications for policy and planning and (b) the effects of emerging transportation equity pilot programs. The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary research team led by Professors Evelyn Blumenberg (Urban Planning) and Brian Taylor (Urban Planning and Public Policy).
We are recruiting up to two postdoctoral scholars who will assist with both the development of research proposals and the execution of funded research on a variety of topics. Projects include, but are not limited to:
Evaluation of the Los Angeles mobility wallet pilot program, including a random control trial, working with LADOT and LA Metro
A vehicle lending library (carshare program) for family self-sufficiency program recipients in the City of LA housing choice voucher program, working with the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles
Post-pandemic changes in commute time and distance
Impact of super commuting on equity and sustainability
Equity implications of new mobility services and technologies.
The scholar will have approximately 80% of their appointment time covered by funded research, and the remaining 20% will be available for the successful applicant’s own research. There also may be opportunities to teach transportation courses; however, this is not a requirement of the position, and is at the discretion of relevant academic departments. In addition to salary, UCLA Lewis Center/ITS will provide the postdoc with $3,000 to attend academic or professional conferences.
Applications are open to all qualified candidates, but we especially encourage applications from women, nonbinary people, people of color, and other backgrounds underrepresented in transportation.
