Software Development Manager: Classification & Policy Platform
Want to teach machines to search for needles in a haystack? Ever wonder how you can keep the worlds largest selection also the worlds safest and legally compliant selection? Then come join a team with the charter to monitor and classify the billions of items in the Amazon catalog to ensure compliance with various legal regulations. The Classification & Policy Platform team is looking for an outstanding Software Development Manager to lead the team that builds technology to automatically monitor the billions of products on the Amazon platform. The software and processes built by this team are a critical component of building a catalog that our customers trust. You will have an opportunity to work with cutting edge machine learning algorithms on large datasets. Your team will need to build Amazon scale applications running on Amazon Cloud that both leverage and create new technologies to process large volumes of data that derive patterns and conclusions from the data.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams - Experience partnering with product OR program management teams - 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers - 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field - Prior experience as a software developer - Demonstrated project management skills across multiple stakeholders - Proficient building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers - Track record for being detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to ship multiple versions/releases - Have had responsibility for the entire life-cycle (requirements definition through specification, design, coding, quality assurance, implementation, integration, launch, and production support) of a shipping product or online service - 8+ years of relevant work experience - 3+ years of management experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Masters degree and/or PhD preferred in mathematics, computer science, or related discipline - Experience in managing teams that have a strong operational focus - Experience in building and driving adoption of new tools - Experience in delivering Amazon-scale systems - A deep understanding of distributed and service-oriented architectures. Delivered large scale commercial enterprise software systems or large scale online services - Experience with Agile Development techniques - Experience in large scale data mining and big data. - Experience with technologies like Hadoop, Rules based systems and Machine learning - Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation skills and listening skills. This will include the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences, including non-technical
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience - 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience - 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience - Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations - Experience partnering with product or program management teams

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy - Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market.
