Job Abstract

Job Summary:

Provides care to HBO patients under the supervision of the Medical Director and Clinical RN.  Responsible for executing hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments in alignment with the hospital hyperbaric medicine policies and procedures within the Outpatient Wound Care Center.  Works closely with the clinical staff by identifying patients appropriate for HBO treatments.  Assists the professional staff in their provision of care by preparing patients to be seen by the physician, assists patients with limited mobility, and performs specific procedures as required for therapy. Assists in providing hyperbaric and safety education for center staff, communicating updates regularly in regards to ensure safety within the center. Also serves as the point person for hyperbaric oxygen therapy and safety-related questions during all center-based audits.

Licensure and Certification:

• Successful completion the Hyperbaric Safety Training (HSD) course approved by UHMS
• Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT) Certification strongly preferred
• Must have and maintain a valid and current EMT, LVN, RRT, RN, or DMT license/certification
• Successful completion of a 40-hour UHMS approved HBOT course
• If not currently certified, must obtain CHT certification within 1 year of hire
• Current BLS required

Education:

• Minimum High School graduate or equivalent
• Medical terminology preferred
• Basic knowledge of PC and mainframe computer operations

Experience:

• Successful completion of a 40-hour UHMS approved HBOT course, and a minimum of one (1) year and/or 1,000 dives as a Certified Hyperbaric Technician

Knowledge and Skills:

• Basic knowledge of NFPA -99, NFPA-55, PVHO, CGA, US Navy Dive Tables, NBDHMT, UHMS, other related hyperbaric codes, standards and organizations
• Intermediate PC and Computer Skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word skills
• Medical terminology
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent follow up and communication skills
• Must be able to work independently
• Possesses the ability to physically meet the strenuous demands required of the job

Physical Demands – Patient Care:

• Continuous standing/walking and occasional/intermittent sitting.
• Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and shoulder level to handle/operate medical equipment/devices.
• Frequent reaching above shoulder level and overhead.
• Frequent forward bending, twisting, squatting and kneeling; occasional climbing.
• Occasional repositioning and transferring patients weighing up to 200 pounds between bed, chair, and gurney.
• Occasional lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Occasional/intermittent pushing of gurneys, wheelchairs, bed and other medical equipment over tiled and carpeted surfaces.
• Continuous use of near vision to read medical equipment such as monitoring devices and reading documents and computer screens; hearing and verbal communication to interact with patients, co-workers, and other customers.
