Job Abstract

The Department of Corrections (DOC), Bureau of Security, Special Operations Division is seeking an Assistant Firearms and Defensive Tactics Coordinator (Corrections Officer 3) to assist with coordinating and managing the departments Defensive Tactics Program. In this role, you will develop and implement a defensive tactics training regimen for officer basic training, as well as a defensive tactics instructor training regimen for department instructors. You will vet and coordinate the use of adjunct defensive tactics instructors for officer basic training, and monitor and evaluate institutional defensive tactics trainings. In addition, you will coordinate and manage the department's Firearms Training which will encompass developing and implementing a firearms training regimen for officer basic training, as well as a firearms instructor training regimen for department range instructors. You will also vet and coordinate the use of adjunct range instructors for officer basic training, and track and assess institutional annual range qualifications.

• Full-time employment (40-hour work week)
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
• Work location: DOC Central Office, 1920 Technology Parkway, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050. If the selected applicant is located closer to a State Correctional Institution, arrangements can be made to report to that location instead.
• Frequent travel will be required (23 weeks a year at the Training Academy for firearms qualification will be required, as well as other required travel).
• Overtime will be required as needed.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please note, a selected applicant who is new to Commonwealth employment will start at the annual salary of $52,306.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title); or
• Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility. (Note: Persons seeking employment under this option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.)

• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
  

Other Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must obtain and maintain both department certified Handgun Shotgun Instructor and Tower Rifle Instructor.
• You must obtain and maintain the departments defensive tactics instructor certification.
• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
