Join our Fresh Food Production (FFP) team at our new Micro Kitchen in New York! FFP is a groundbreaking initiative by Whole Foods Market committed to delivering top-quality food at scale. Our best-in-class FFP facilities will optimize quality, food safety, and execution consistency for prepared fresh food for Whole Foods Market. The New York Micro Kitchen Maintenance Technician is responsible for repairs, adjustments, and ongoing maintenance of the Micro Kitchen facility, focusing on ensuring efficient and safe operation of all equipment in accordance with team and facility Standard Operating Procedures.
Location: The Micro Kitchen is located in Long Island City, NY, and this will be an onsite role.
Responsibilities:
- Perform general maintenance and routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
- Inspect and diagnose problems and determine the best way to correct them, frequently checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs.
- Routinely walk the facility and note areas in need of repair or updating in the maintenance log.
- Coordinate with facility leadership team to determine the timeline and priorities of needed updates and repairs.
- Maintain a log of equipment routine maintenance and ensure appropriate vendor scheduling as needed.
- Routinely inspect the refrigeration and HVAC systems lines and filters.
- Maintain and order parts and reconcile packaging slips with invoices in preparation for payment.
- Maintain inventory of basic parts.
- Use common hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches and hammers as well as specialized equipment and electronic testing devices.
- Follow checklists, including inspection of drives, motors and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance functions.
- Coordinate outside contractors, as needed, to perform needed repairs.
- Adherence to Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) for equipment when maintaining or cleaning.
- Ensure all work is performed promptly without disrupting the normal course of business for facility Team Members.
- Immediately report safety hazards and violations to facility leadership.
- Communicate and maintain building safety and security standards and follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines.
- Establish and maintain positive and productive vendor relationships.
- Coordinate with Food Safety and Sanitation teams to ensure timely execution of scheduled deep clean activities and post-maintenance cleaning when needed.
- Arrive to workstation on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work; work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings.
- Attend all applicable equipment and certification trainings.
- Foster and encourage a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and positive morale.
- Perform other duties as assigned by facility leadership.
Qualifications:
- One year of previous experience in a maintenance leadership role within a food production or manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret repair manuals, parts catalogues, blueprints, technical procedures, safety rules, operation/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Stay current with changes in maintenance procedures.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to details, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to deliver information in a clear and concise manner to fellow team members.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate responsibility and accountability in recognizing and accomplishing all tasks where there is a direct job responsibility.
- High attention to detail and thoroughness in approach with all paperwork.
- Ability to prioritize effectively and make good decisions on when and how to repair various equipment.
- Working knowledge of facility equipment and ability to communicate with service vendors and Facility Leadership about equipment issues and repairs.
- Ability to visually examine building for damage or wear and to fix encountered problems.
- Demonstrated proficiency in proper use of a dumpster, baler, forklift, box cutters, small power tools, hand tools, and other related equipment.
- Capable of teaching others in a positive and constructive manner.
- Basic computer skills; proficiency in select Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); and ability to learn custom applications.
- Ability to work well with others, self-motivated, and capable of working independently with little supervision.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the facility, including nights, weekends and holidays as required.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must adhere to company dress code and standards of production kitchen dress and PPE (personal protective equipment).
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with reasonable accommodation.
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
- Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
- Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
- May require use of ladders.
The wage range for this position is $21.00 - $28.50 Hourly, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers “Whole Benefits".
