Job Summary Manager of mechanical operations handles daily functions of the Car and Locomotive desks for Mechanical Operations. Monitors and compiles weekly and monthly reports for service centers, locomotive maintenance scheduling, trending locomotive, and car failures. Manages reporting systems for Mechanical Operations, and monitors for accuracy. Provides daily reporting of Car and Locomotive delays to originating trains. Balances locomotive maintenance scheduling as directed by Chief Mechanical Officer Locomotive Operations, and monitors car tracking insuring timely repairs to cars with defects. Develops and delivers training for Mechanical Operations related applications, to include promoting best practices for all Mechanical Operations desks. Interfaces with technology to integrate reporting systems. Monitors hurricane and severe weather conditions to minimize damage to CSXT locomotives and rail cars on CSXT property.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
Manages daily functions of the Car, Locomotive, and desks for Mechanical Operations
Monitors and compiles weekly and monthly reports
Monitors Joint Wayside Detector System (JWDS) reporting system and trending detector data
Monitor UOR (unusual occurrence reports) for mechanical related issues and dispatch appropriate resources to respond
Monitors TCIS car tracking insuring timely repairs to cars
Coordinates crane and derailment services with field managers
Provides daily reports related to Car and Locomotive delays to originating trains
Provide Human-In-Loop (HITL) logic to validate existing machine vision algorithms. Perform virtual inspection of trains to generate training sets of images for algorithms currently under development. Coordinate with signals desk to resolve false/negative integrity.
Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED
3 or more years of experience in Mechanical Operations
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
3 or more years of experience in Mechanical Operations
3 or more years of supervisory experience in Mechanical Operations
Knowledge and Skills
(Federal Railroad Administration) FRA Regulations, CSXT Operating Practices, CSXT Car and Locomotive Practices, AAR rules
C-MOR, Tableau, LMS (Locomotive Management Tracking System for Locomotives), Operations Portal (OP) CSX Mainframe.
DART - Detector Analysis Reporting Tool FIRM (CSXT Tracking System for FRA Reporting MTI (Mechanical Train Inspection Car Department and EOT Management system) TCIS (Tracking system for Car delays, Set off, Derailment and Intermodal Locomotive problems).
LIRT ( additional reporting System used for Locomotive problems), CIRT ( additional Car Reporting system to allow Dispatcher, chief Dispatchers to pass critical car information to the mechanical desk reducing volume of call to the car desk), YES – Yard Enterprise System, Railinc (web site provides AAR information on cars, owners etc.) Hurricane preparedness, (coordinate with Transportation to protect Car and Locomotives from damage by moving away from the direct path of a storm, away from flood potential areas).
Microsoft Office skills
Ability to coordinate with field personnel for required clearance inspections when required.
