The City of Irvine seeks a passionate and motivated individual for the Public Safety Technology Support position. The Technology and Innovation unit is responsible for maintaining and improving current public safety systems, as well as researching and implementing various new technologies.
Under direction of the Public Safety Technology Analyst, perform varied technical and analytical assignments involving the implementation, operation, maintenance, and upgrade of computer hardware, software, networks, and telecommunications systems. Your Impact
Assists in the configuration and installation of hardware, software, network, and mobile data implementation projects for the Public Safety Department, while also configuring and repairing equipment such as MDCs, wireless routers, cameras, and other devices within or attached to public safety vehicles.
Installs, instructs, and coordinates the use of information systems, ensuring that systems meet user’s needs, including, meeting automation needs, developing alternative solutions, and reviewing or recommending new or modified programs, systems, and upgrades
Participates in the testing of new equipment and software programs to determine compatibility with current environment and public safety standards; recommends procedural changes to improve systems operations, minimize risks, and ensure hardware and software integrity.
Troubleshoots technical problems with critical public safety systems, servers, and equipment, including investigating and resolving problems and issues with systems, monitoring system activity and performance
Provides suggestions for designing and implementing new technology, including system topology and server configuration while; ensuring systems adhere to public safety and CJIS security standards.
Plans for new systems and expansion by providing specifications and data related to increased loads, and schedule operating systems and applications software updates.
Acts as departmental liaison for information technology matters in contacts with other City departments, contractors, consultants, and vendors for performance of information technology projects. Serves as a technical resource to City staff. Interfaces/confers with IT employees and contracted IT staff on department’s technical needs and concerns.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of state-of-the art technology trends for the public safety field and continuously evaluates the potential for upgrade of department systems.
Coordinates contractor and consultant services for maintenance of hardware and software; identifies and prioritizes needed changes in applications and systems.
Assists public safety staff with technical questions, service requests, and problems with software applications and devices; trains staff members on technology equipment and systems.

Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in information management systems, computer science, systems analysis, or a related field and three years progressively responsible experience in the analysis and design of application systems, including network systems or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework and understanding of Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) methodology.
Knowledge of public safety technology
Hands-on experience in troubleshooting common computer hardware, network, and software issues.
