Siemens Mobility, Inc., is looking for a summer intern to work in our Locomotive Department in Sacramento, CA. This department is part of a plant with 2,500 employees, manufacturing railway vehicles for customers across North America.
The incumbent will have an opportunity to work with Project Managers and team members from various other functional departments such as operations, engineering, procurement, testing, quality management, etc. on exciting Locomotive projects and also interface with colleagues located internationally. The tasks include autonomously working with our project team on small work packages in the project. The incumbent will attend meetings for the project, work with our Project Managers and Engineers in the US and Europe on customer correspondence, documentation, Locomotive production, product delivery as well as on design and engineering topics. This is a great opportunity.
We are looking for someone with a high level of dedication that can work autonomously, is at least a Junior preferable with an Engineering background (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial). Working knowledge of Microsoft office programs is required, as wells as effective communication skills, self-motivation and attention to detail. Documentation Management System knowledge and previous project management skills are a plus.
What you will be doing:
* Help team members manage development, tracking, and reporting of complex plant schedules, based on inputs from functional department managers.
* Become versed in Primavera software, create/update project schedules under supervision.
* Be able to have micro and macro level understanding of issues related to plant performance, forecasts, bottlenecks and trends.
* Support in the development of plant wide master schedules (key team member).
* Be able to simplify problems to determine impacts (impact analysis).
* Development of reports for cross-functional departments to monitor schedule performance at various levels with respect to baselines and factory manpower loading.
* Support subject matter experts in driving teams to overcome roadblocks or delays through using various methods such as industry related knowledge, innovating short cuts or alternative ways, improvising plans to meet targets and the like.
What you will need to be successful:
· Current rising junior or senior undergraduate students pursuing a BA/BS from an accredited technical school, college or university
· Majors: Finance, Accounting, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial/System Engineering, Industrial Distribution, Management/Marketing/Sales with strong technical or engineering aptitude preferred
· Work Authorization: Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
· Ability to work 40 hours per week from May to August
· The ability to work on site at our manufacturing campus in Sacramento, California
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
* Preferred education / some experience in: Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or similar) with an interest in Project Management/Project Controls.
* Experience with scheduling software such as Primavera in a manufacturing or construction environment preferred but not required.
* Understanding of manufacturing/operations processes preferred.
* Understanding of the Rail / Rolling Stock / Heavy Manufacturing Industry is a plus.
* Experience in fostering strong partnerships with key stakeholders.
* Experience with SAP ERP
* Experience with Tableau software
* Prior Internship or co-op experience
* Proven leadership skills
* Strong analytical, writing and presentation skills
* Industry knowledge and/or interest
The hours are 40 hours per week for the summer break with possible part-time extension.
