TWO CURRENT VACANCIES.
Under regular supervision, performs specialized skilled work in participating in various construction and maintenance activities. Work involves leveling and grading asphalt as streets are repaired. Reports to the Foreman.
Duties of Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Unloads material from trucks.
Sets up job site with barricades.
Prepares the potholes on the job site.
Lays asphalt and limestone.
Transports compressor and air board when needed.
Fills holes with dirt or sand.
Places tar in cracks in streets.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as verbal instructions.
Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as verbal instructions.
Refers to policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, etc.
Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as asphalt spreader, etc.
Uses a variety of tools such as asphalt rakes, shovels, broom, mop, hammer, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as asphalt, stone, sand, coal mix, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Foreman, fellow laborers, Truck Drivers, Operators, coworkers, and the general public.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs groundskeeping such as cutting grass, trimming behind mower with weed eater, trimming trees with power saw, etc.
Cleans street drains.
Performs site clean up after cement has been poured; removes forms.
Moves furniture.
Runs screws on asphalt spreader.
Performs other related duties as required.
Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with three to six months of practical training and experience operating heavy equipment and performing related activities; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license.
