The City:

We are a full-service city comprised of nine departments, that include our own city staffed Fire and Police departments. Additionally, the city oversees a general aviation airport, a library, and a variety of recreational buildings, facilities, and activities. We are a mid-sized organization providing a variety of services with a workforce dedicated to the future of Fullerton.
The Department:
The Fullerton Public Works Department provides the public infrastructure, both facilities and maintenance services, essential to the City to ensure public health, safety, and the general welfare of our residents.
Public Works manages the City’s major assets and infrastructure such as the streets, buildings, parks, and other public facilities in a cohesive and integrated effort from design, construction, and to ongoing maintenance services on City projects to the standards set forth by the City Council. We strive to create projects and programs that maximize return on your tax dollar investment in its infrastructure at 30-, 50-, and 100-year horizons.
The Public Works Department Traffic Division is responsible for city-wide traffic management, which includes all traffic signals, signs, striping, and transportation projects. This division also coordinates all transit improvements and interfaces with federal, state and county transportation programs.
The Position:
Under general supervision, lays out and paints pavement legends, curb markings and traffic/street striping on City owned streets and performs related work as required.
Employment Guidelines
Education/Training/Experience:
Any combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications is:
Graduation from high school
AND
Two years of responsible spray and brush painting experience to include some traffic related painting experience.
Special Requirements:
Valid Class C California Driver's License and acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position. Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Employer Pull Notice Program.
Certain positions or assignments may require the possession of or the ability to acquire a specialized motor vehicle operator's license or certification.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs.

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
Applicants must be specific and complete in describing qualifications for the position.
BASED UPON THE INFORMATION PRESENTED ON THE APPLICATION MATERIALS, Applicants possessing the most suitable qualifications will be invited to a written examination, performance examination, oral interview and/or other assessment instrument.
NOTE:
The City reserves the right to revise any portion of the examination process. Candidates will be notified of any changes before a related examination step.
Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Traffic Painter will be placed on an eligible list for the respective classification, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.
Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.
All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a medical examination performed by the City's designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individual's ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees appointed to safety sensitive classifications and all new hires will undergo a drug screen.
All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified with the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
All new hires, including non-regular City of Fullerton employees appointed to this position, will serve a one-year probationary period. Regular City of Fullerton employees promoted to this position will serve a six-month probationary period.
