The MITRE Naval Aviation Systems Department’s (N233) mission is to advance Naval Aviation solutions with urgency ensuring warfighter dominance against current and future adversaries in defense of our nation. This is accomplished by delivering timely, effective, and sustainable capabilities to ensure the warfighter’s mission success and safe return home.

Roles and Responsibilities:
 

The Naval Aviation department is seeking a Systems Engineer in the Lexington Park, MD area to advance the capabilities of future Marine Corps Aviation platforms and systems. Candidate will work across research, development, and integration of advanced systems to enable informed and coordinated capability transitions across USMC Aviation and USN Future Vertical Lift portfolios in support of Force Design and Distributed Maritime Operations. Candidate should have a working knowledge of USMC Aviation and be able to apply that knowledge to perform analyses and solve problems. Additionally, candidate will be responsible to perform the following:

• Engage with stakeholders to analyze operational needs, address enterprise challenges, apply sound technology solutions, and advance the capabilities of USMC Aviation.

• Connect with outside stakeholders at Cunningham Group, MCWL, MARCORSYSCOM, and MARFORPAC to identify opportunities for capability development and transition
• Develop and evaluate system of system integration and concept of operations (CONOPS) for advanced USMC Aviation systems through mission engineering and operational analysis
• Connect with other MITRE projects and innovation centers to provide a broad perspective of potential solutions leveraging related existing work in other services
• Lead project work shaping efforts and the team executing the project
• Write technical reports and/or present briefings of analysis, findings, and recommendations to Government sponsors
• Work in collaboration with other engineers in a team environment to provide innovative solutions to sponsor’s challenges

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree with 10 years of related experience; or 8 years and a master’s degree; or PhD with 5 years’ relevant experience
• 10+ years Defense acquisition, research, and development expertise and 5+ years of Project Management or Technical Leadership experience
• Active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret/SCI
• Interest in solving problems across multiple engineering disciplines to provide solutions to complex problems
• Flexible systems thinker with the ability to quickly deliver results and achieve impactful outcomes
• Effective communication skills, collaboration, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills

• Experience working collaboratively in a team environment
• Good communication skills and ability to present highly technical material to a diverse audience
• This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in related discipline
• Strong systems engineering skills and familiarity with acquisition and program management
• Active TS/SCI
