Job Description
Dotdash Meredith is looking for a highly motivated and digitally savvy Senior Commerce Editor to join the news/deals food team, working across EatingWell, Serious Eats, Allrecipes, and Food & Wine. The ideal candidate should have past editing and commerce experience, be a creative and quick problem solver, and have a passion for cooking, nutrition, and kitchen products. Culinary school and/or professional culinary experience or qualifications are a plus.
As Senior Commerce Editor, you will be responsible for collaborating with the Editorial Director to edit timely food-related shopping content, onboard and manage freelancer relationships, and manage a small team of staff and contract writers. You will also assist with planning and executing coverage for large sale events, such as Prime Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, as well as track and analyze performance to implement ways to improve monetization over time.
This job requires both analytical and editorial skills to ensure our news/deals commerce content is accurate, inclusive, comprehensive, and accessible to all readers.
About Your Contributions:
Assign, edit, and publish stories with help from a dedicated team of full-time editors and writers
Work with the Editorial Director to manage an editorial calendar and track assignments, ensuring articles move along on time, while also identifying stories and needs based on seasonality, trends, celebrity finds, bestsellers, product reviews, and more
Stay current on trends and new products, maintaining close contact with public relations agencies
Utilize our team’s analytics tools, as well as resources like Google Trends, Instagram, TikTok, etc. to come up with the next big content ideas
Track and use performance data to adjust editorial strategy and programming efforts with a good understanding of basic business KPIs such as growth conversion rates
Manage freelance writer relationships, which includes onboarding freelancers, fielding pitches, assigning stories, editing content, and handling invoices
Manage a small team of staff and contract writers
Prioritize day-to-day needs alongside short-term, special projects and support your team’s goals, while also taking into account organizational priorities and changes
Collaborate with and manage expectations of the commerce, editorial, growth, testing and research, and social teams
Assist in our testing process, whether evaluating products at home or attending lab testing days
Use SEO tools and knowledge of brands to come up with the next big content ideas
Attend weekly commerce meetings
About You:
5-7 years of experience writing and editing in the food and wellness space (preferably for a digital consumer brand), including 2 years of experience editing freelance writers
A product enthusiast who spends time shopping and obsessing over purchases; has clocked enough time in the kitchen and walked enough miles in sneakers to know what makes a great product
Knowledgeable about the voices of Dotdash Meredith’s diverse food brands
Detail-oriented and deadline-focused with solid editing skills, as well as a deep understanding of commerce, SEO, and news content
Comfortable with content management systems and workflow systems
Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills, including proficiency in management tools like Google Suite and Airtable
Ability to see the big picture and work seamlessly across multiple brands daily
Self-starter who wants to work for a growing company
Experience with developing and producing videos for social media a plus
College degree required; culinary school or professional cooking experience a plus
